Fair enough.

But then why not call evolution "Darwinism"?

After all, isn't Lamarckism named after Jean Baptiste de Lamarck?

Evolution has gone past Darwin's work. It is still a core part of the concept, but other sciences contribute heavily too.

Yes, but Lamarckism is dead. It is mentioned as history. Evolution is a current paradigm

No respect for the dead?

He's good enough to have his pic on the £10 note, he has a city named after him, and he's buried in Westminster Abbey -- but he's not good enough to have a theory named after him?

Side note: He was born in Shrewsbury. If you're an evolutionist, let's see if you see what I see here (and I'm not an evolutionist).

You mean, isn't it a coincidence that he was born in the same town which has a statue of him outside its public library?

I live 12 miles from Shrewsbury.

The original theory is named after him. But it has changed since then. Newton only gets credit for the physics that follow his laws. The same applies to Einstein. Darwin is still well honored. But like it or not, science is constantly changing and improving.

No.

Here, I'll help you:

A group of fish is called a school.
A group of apes is called a __________?

Back to playing semantic games again.

Another way that AV announces that he has lost.
I've only been using that term here for how many years now?

And for the record, it's a Linnaean term, is it not?

You should be impressed -- but science is a canine-consume-canine craft, isn't it?

The plural that you are talking about is a Linnaean term? I don't think so.

Thou shalt not take the name of Shropshire's County Town in vain.

From yahoo answers:

Perhaps someone can confirm this?

Rubbish./ Of course you can criticize Darwin. Lots of people have done, and we've l;earnt new things because of it.

But if you want to criticize the fact of evolution, you'd better have some damn strong evidence to support you, because evolution has a lot of damn strong evidence already on its side. And it'd be stupid to go up against something with as much support as evolution if you don't have even better support of your own.

But if you have such evidence, then criticism is welcome. You'd probably even win a Nobel prize.

A shrewdness of apes, not a Shrewsbury of apes. Etymologically the two words have no relationship.

As a matter of interest, how many piscines did you sit next to in class?

Perhaps someone can confirm this?

It is as it should be.

In exactly the same way, a flat-earther will not get a job at NASA.
A voodoo healer, will not get a position as medical expert in a hospital.
A proponent of Stork Theory, will not get a position as professor of embryology at some faculty.

Not properly understanding biology, thus disqualifies you from any job where understanding biology is a requirement.

Having said that, there seems to be some (dishonest) confusion here...
Nobody cares about Darwin, the person. Criticize the person all you want.
Call him a douche, call him a liar, express whatever opinion you have about the man.

There is a difference between criticizing the established biological theory of evolution and the person that initially came up with it.

Applying for a position where being an expert is biology is important while being an evolution denier, is like applying for a position as car mechanic while denying the existance of the combustion engine.

Can a YEC be a successful eye doctor?
Sure. Eye doctors can be ignorant of all sorts of things.

An eye doctor does not even need to be able to understand football to fix the eyes of a football player. He is a mere technician.
