  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What is standard for racist? Birther Movement is racist to many. But what you require?

I'm open to that charge, but you would have to logically demonstrate why challenging Obama's citizenship per se is racism.

Trump say Nazi and KKK side have some "very fine people" make it very clear what Trump think of races. Trump did say - 5:45 Minutes

Trump said that there were bad people on both sides and very fine people on both sides. More than just white supremacists and hate groups were protesting the removal of the monument, you know.

Argument is done. By definition Trump is racist. copy of post #69 -

Make simple. From google:

rac·ist
ˈrāsəst/
noun
  1. 1.
a person who shows or feels discrimination or prejudice against people of other races, or who believes that a particular race is superior to another.

Is many cases given of Trump show discrimination in thread. Trump is racist. Is proven so many time is called "Gish Gallop"! Whole business council quit from Trump comment!

EDIT: Now whole 35 years old Arts and Humanities Council quit from Trump racism! Read statement.

Even a person's own words can be quoted and twisted out of their context to mean something different to what was intended. It's like quoting a Scripture out of context. The best way to interpret a verse of Scripture is to start 10 verses before and continue reading 10 verses after.

It is one thing to take a phrase of someone's speech and say what is meant by it, but the whole meaning and intent may be quite different when 10 sentences before the phrase and 10 sentences after the phrase are heard or read.

You do realise that many of his own words are via videos of him speaking them...?

Yes, we've seen Trump and some of his supporters make that claim. Yet, no one seems able to identify any of these "fine people" at that rally...where are they please...?

Because like usual Trump was lying, he barely has an understanding of U.S. history and thinks George Washington is like Robert E Lee.

I don't know. Simple Google searches don't seem to turn up much information. Anyone able to either confirm or debunk this?

Kellyanne already told us: You can't go by what he says, you have to go by what he means, in his heart.

The bible teaches us that out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. All he spews is trash but we are expected to believe he is a good man.

It came from Trump's mouth....ergo, there's a 70% likelihood that it has debunked itself...

He's one of those people for whom the public doesn't have a smoking gun, but the circumstances certainly suggest that Gorka is a member of VR. Here's some excerpt from a Rolling Stone piece that looks into this:

Perhaps even more worrisome, Gorka's thesis proposed a dramatic restructuring of the national-security apparatus to create a police state.... "That's about as Nazi Germany- or Soviet Union-like a proposal as I've ever heard," says Patrick Eddington of the conservative Cato Institute. "The net effect would be to suspend the Bill of Rights, if his proposal ever saw the light of day."

By all accounts, Gorka's own writing and statements at the time included no anti-Semitic comments, and neither The Forward nor other reporters who've investigated his background in Hungary have turned up any evidence that Gorka himself participated in anything that could be called anti-Jewish. "What you can say for sure is that he was allied with people who have very extremist views," says Péter Krekó of the Political Capital Institute in Hungary. "He was an opportunist, and he cooperated with figures who were very marginal."

Yet these denials are hard to square with Gorka's family background. Having fled Hungary for London after 1956, Gorka's parents joined a raucous mix of anti-Communist, right-wing exiles, including those who belonged to the Order of Knights (Vitézi Rend), an organization with an unsavory past. Vitézi Rend was created by the Nazi-backed ruler of Hungary, and many of its members were involved in the slaughter of Jews during the Holocaust. Today, members of the Order fall under an immigration watch by the State Department on groups that have violated human rights.

The main evidence of his involvement in VR is not necessarily the medal he wore, which he attributes to honoring his father, but his use of the "v" in his name when signing official documents, despite only having names that start with SLG (sebastian Lukacs Gorka). Members of VR swear a lifelong oath of loyalty.

He's apparently a Steve Bannon loyalist, so I expect him to be fired soon. That isn't really reflective of the White House's moral stance on his supposed affiliations, and more politicking as per usual

Yeah I dunno. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be anything of much substance here.

Not Gish Gallop. Gish Gallop is for debate. At debate not time to respond to all point. Here all time you need to respond. So?

Is accurate list. Think some not like accurate list when so much facts.

Logical fallacies can be committed any time. No formal setting is needed.

This is probably some sort of logical fallacy.

No, it's some form of statistical probability...!

You may be unaware, but multiple fact check exercises have indicated that more than 70% of Trump's statements are either lies or incompetent ignorance.

Sure..

His policy of not renting to blacks and having to be made to conform to rental by-laws.

His reference to that judge not being fair because he was of Latino background.

His condescending comments about blacks having it too easy.

His comments about blacks being lazy.

His dog whistle comments last weekend.

Let's pick one of these and analyze it. Which do you think is particularly indicting?

Inductive conclusions based on patterns in the preponderance of evidence aren't fallacies. It is how we learn things about reality in general.

"X is false" does not logically follow from "unreliable source said X".
