  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Thomas Sheridan is a man who has dealt with Psychopaths for decades. He has the emotional scars to prove it. He has come to the conclusion that Psychopaths are not human, but are demonic. He presents his case in this video.

The flaw in his argument is that Psychopathy is a spectrum. All of us have some psychopathology, although its barely perceptible. (Perhaps we should call this our sinful nature). So it ranges from that all the way to the heights, where you have your Stalins, your Moas, your Pol Pots, your Hitlers. If all of us have it to some degree, then where do you draw the line to say this person is human but that person no longer is?

Be warned that because the subject is the demonic, the visuals can at times be disturbing. My recommendation is that you close your eyes while listening, or turn your laptop away.

I can't manage watching that video now, also looking through my phone since we have no Internet connection on our main computer yet, will get it back in a few days time.

I don't think psychopaths aren't human, but they are definitively very influenced by demons. They can possibly be possessed too. But they are still humans, the difference is that they have gotten more imprisoned and broken down as a person.

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Regarding the natural person, how would they tell demons from lunatics?
The person is always there, even as the man who had a legion of demons in him.
I believe some people open themselves to demons and are oppressed, but others
give themselves over for whatever promises they are made.

Indeed.. I myself have known men who were giving up - and are at present giving themselves up, to be taken over by demons. It's a sorrowful thing.

Only a minority of psychopaths are harmless. The majority do their harm psychologically, emotionally, and spiritually. The go through their lives fooling people (at least initially) into thinking they are absolutely normal and even charismatic, until the damage begins. They are pathological liars and manipulators who have no conscience, no guilt, no shame, and no remorse.

Remember psychopathy exists on a spectrum. There are those who score, ie., medium high, so that maybe they lie a lot and tend to use people, but still care about their family and friends. You get the idea.

My daughter is a high functioning sociopath with whom we have worked her entire life. She still lies, and has taken advantage of family members, but doesn't act on her desire to hurt others unless they themselves are predators (we instilled in her a sense of justice)--then they get a taste of her acerbic tongue, AND she does martial arts, so that she is only hurting others who volunteer for it as part of a sport. She is studying to become a CSI where her lack of emotional involvement is ideal for the job. Anyhow, that's why this topic is one that is close to my heart. I pray for her always.

But this thread is about those who score really high on the spectrum. There is no hope for "working with them." They are simply given over to evil.

That is one part of the problem. The brain grows pathways determined by what we do. Continuing in evil forces the brain to conform to that behavior, making it worse.

What appears to be the problem is that certain parts of the limbic system are simply turned off, especially the amygdala.

Great article Vis

The headline is recklessly misrepresenting the article. The psychiatrist actually says something significantly different, and I agree with what he says:

Richard Gallagher, a board-certified psychiatrist and professor of clinical psychiatry at New York Medical College, says he has personally encountered demonic possession, and is convinced that possession is much more widespread than anybody is willing to admit.
I believe there are demon possessed people as well. I think if you are a psychiatrist that sooner or later you will run into them, because people who don't believe in demons will assume that a demon possessed person has a psychiatric illness. But that is NOT to say that all or most people who have psychiatric illnesses are demon possessed.

Last year I read a great article by one of the Psychiatrists that the Catholic Church uses to rule out mental illnesses before it does exorcisms. He said that you can tell the difference. There are people out there that simply don't meet the criteria of a mental disease, and do meet the criteria for possession.

Vis, have you ever read a book by M. Scott Peck called "People of the Lie"? He is also a Psychiatrist, and he found that many of his patients were tormented by what he could only describe as evil people.
