  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Jesus' commandments - opposed to His Fathers Commandments? - Really?

Are Jesus' Commandments opposed to God's Ten Commandments?

  • No Jesus taught in perfect harmony with the Father and the Ten Commandments

  • Jesus came to delete/oppose God's Ten Commandments

  • Jesus taught us to edit the Ten Commandments replacing some but not others

  • Jesus' commandments are based on Love - God's Commandments are not and are ended

  • I don't know - I have not given this much thought so far.

Unless you ignore many verses, you can't establish your false doctrine.

John 10

But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.

3 To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.

4 And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.

5 And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.
Really like verse 5.

1 Cor 6 says not to "sin against the body"
1 Cor 3 says that you are the temple of God.
Lev 11 says not to eat diseased meat and rats.

The Bible is consistent.

You can twist it any way you want it to say, but the fact remains that God sent down a sheet of unclean animals and said to kill and eat. Not to kill Gentiles. Because unclean meat represented Gentiles, and that was the whole point of separating clean and unclean meats, when He gave the gospel to the Gentiles, he also called unclean meats, clean.

1 Timothy 4:4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving; 5 for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer."

The word of God was spoken to Peter directly. "Kill and eat." “What God has cleansed you must not call common.” Peter also knew that because the meat was cleansed, the Gentiles were too. How can you only grasp half of what God meant? It doesn't seem you are humble to seek God's meaning in our New Covenant.

I find it odd that it only took 3 hours of debate for me to see the light, and you can't accept the truth after how many years? How long are you going to stay under the law, and negate grace?

You can twist it any way you want it to say, but the fact remains that God sent down a sheet of unclean animals and said to kill and eat.

And each time the command was given to eat the snakes and rats - Peter said "no Lord" and pointed to scripture - and his compliance with scripture. Then Acts 10 says Peter was meditating on what the true meaning of this symbol might be. At this point he has TWO opportunities to EXPLAIN the vision.

17 Now while Peter wondered within himself what this vision which he had seen meant, behold, the men who had been sent from Cornelius had made inquiry for Simon’s house, and stood before the gate

Peter is concentrated on the same question we have - what does the vision mean?

Then the inspired ANSWER is written in scripture for us.

28 Then he said to them, “You know how unlawful it is for a Jewish man to keep company with or go to one of another nation. But God has shown me that I should not call any man common or unclean.

Two details
1. NOTHING in the OT says it is unlawful or a Jew to keep company with - or go to one of another nation. Recall that Elijah lived with a woman of another nation for a while in the OT. "What Jews like Peter considered lawful" or not - also included to some extent TRADITION of the Jews.

2. Peter gives the GOSPEL meaning - "CALL no MAN unclean" just when the "eat more rats" agendas of some would have it "no forget evangelizing this is just about rat sandwiches" and of course you and I both know that is totally misguided - going down that road.

6 When I observed it intently and considered, I saw four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, creeping things, and birds of the air. 7 And I heard a voice saying to me, ‘Rise, Peter; kill and eat.’ 8 But I said, ‘Not so, Lord! For nothing common or unclean has at any time entered my mouth.’ 9 But the voice answered me again from heaven, ‘What God has cleansed you must not call common.’ 10 Now this was done three times, and all were drawn up again into heaven. 11 At that very moment, three men stood before the house where I was, having been sent to me from Caesarea. 12 Then the Spirit told me to go with them, doubting nothing

Here again - Peter's focus is not "so then I began eating rat sandwiches" rather the meaning is all about the Gospel.

Acts 15:
7 After there had been much debate, Peter stood up and said to them, ""Brethren, you know that in the early days God made a choice among you, that by my mouth the Gentiles would hear the word of the gospel and believe.

This was not about eating more rats, cats, dogs, bats, snakes ... it is about gentile evangelism according to Peter.

Peter was evangelizing gentiles and eating that food which is "sanctified by the Word of God"

1 Timothy 4:4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving; 5 for it is sanctified by the Word of God and prayer."

So then -- NOT rats. :)

Most would say it is "incredibly obvious" that the focus is on gentile evangelism and not eating rats. Some will not "see that point" and of course everyone has free will and can choose as they wish.

You are still blind.

I am the Lord your God, who has separated you from the peoples. 25 You shall therefore distinguish between clean animals and unclean, between unclean birds and clean, and you shall not make yourselves abominable by beast or by bird, or by any kind of living thing that creeps on the ground, which I have separated from you as unclean. 26 And you shall be holy to Me, for I the Lord am holy, and have separated you from the peoples, that you should be Mine.

There is neither Jew nor Greek.

The Word of God was spoken directly to Peter. "Kill and eat." “What God has cleansed you must not call common.” Peter also knew that because the meat was cleansed, the Gentiles were also, NOT INSTEAD OF. BOTH!!!

Bob, you have no idea what our liberty entails. It doesn't mean it is good to eat diseased meat, just that the laws prohibiting anything to do with food are no longer applicable, anymore than it is not right that the Jews should still remain separated. God is saying it is NO LONGER SIN, punishable by His judgment. And we aren't even talking about diseased anything. God has given us a sound mind. Diseased meat can kill you, but HEALTHY thoroughly cooked anything is not a SIN!

our liberty does not mean we are free to ignore God's Word when HE says not to eat diseased meat and rats. In fact that can kill you today - just as it could then. No change.

God's laws prohibiting the eating of diseased meat and rats - were always for our good - and still are for our good. Rebellion against the Word of God is wrong today - just as it has always been.

No change there.

Hello Bob.

You said the law was divided into moral law and ceremonial law, so into which category does Leviticus 11 belong?

You seem to be avoiding the obvious Bob.

You can take God at His word, or stay under the law. It is your choice. If you believe Paul, then all things are lawful, it is just that not all things are healthy for you. So stay away from diseased anything, pesticides, poisons, and such. This is a New Covenant, and the Old Covenant is fading away. What used to be sin as far as foods, God has made lawful.

Nobody is eating diseased meat, but if they did, it wouldn't be a SIN, as it wouldn't be on purpose. The only law regarding meat in the New Covenant is against eating things strangled. Also to stay away from meat offered to idols, if anyone weak in the faith is around.

That is impossible if you buy food, especially non organic food. Some of that is even questionable.

God has given us a sound mind, so wash veggies and fruit from the market. It's still not a sin though, and that is the point Bob R doesn't understand about the New Covenant. I think he only studies the Old Covenant.

Nobody is eating diseased meat,

1. Nobody is "deliberately" eating diseased meat? Nice! Because God's Word says we should not be doing that in Lev 11.

2. Self-murder (suicide) is a "sin against the body". Slow self-murder is as well.

3. Some have argued that "God has gone too far" in Lev 11 if He goes beyond saying "eating diseased meat is abomination". Those who limit God in that way - have free will - they can propose it to God - but I doubt He will accept their proposal.

The only law regarding meat in the New Covenant is against eating things strangled.

That is not true. Under the New Covenant of Jeremiah 31:31-33 the "LAW of God" known to Jeremiah is written on the heart. Exegesis being what it is. And includes the prohibition not to eat diseased meat and rats as found in Lev 11.

in Christ,
Bob

Hello Bob.

Yes Bob, but what kind of law is Leviticus 11, ceremonial or moral?

As I said before - no such thing as "ceremony of not eating diseased meat" - I think we all agree to that.

Hello Bob.
You said the law was divided into moral law and ceremonial law,

And so did the Baptist Confession of Faith admit to that obvious detail.
And so did the Westminster Confession of Faith admit to that obvious detail.
And so does 1 Cor 7:19 point to the distinction between "ceremonial" and "Commandments of God".

So then both sides see the point clearly -- it just does not get "any easier" than that! :)

so into which category does Leviticus 11 belong?

As stated above in the obvious answer - there is "no such thing as the ceremony of not eating diseased meat" -- and we both know.

Just stating the obvious -- again.

You seem to be avoiding the obvious David.

You can take God at His word, or stay under the law. It is your choice

Under the New Covenant the "LAW of God is written on the heart" Jer 31:31-33
1 John 5:2-3 we "show" that we LOVE God when we keep His Commandments "for this IS the LOVE of God - that we KEEP His Commandments"

If you believe Paul, then all things are not lawful as he himself condemns a whole list of things in 1 Cor 6 saying
9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, 10 nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards..

Let's believe Paul's writing.

The list in 1 Cor 6 does not mention taking God's name in vain - but we know that too is sin - for 'sin IS transgression of the LAW" 1 John 3:4 even in the New Testament. So as John said "Sin NOT" 1 John 2:1. We show that we Love God when we keep God's Commandments for as 1 John 5:2-3 says "this IS the Love of God - that we KEEP His Commandments"

Paul reminds us of the TEN Commandments in Eph 6:2 -- telling us that in that still-valid still-applicable "unit of ten" the FIFTH commandment is the FIRST in that list "with a promise".

So stay away from diseased anything, pesticides, poisons, and such.

Indeed. God's word condemns the eating of diseased animals and also condemns eating rats in Lev 11.

The New Covenant (Jer 31:31-33) does not direct the saints down the road of rebellion against the Word of God -- and I think we both agree on that obvious Bible detail.

Bob, I believe the law of God written on our hearts is to love God with all your heart, and love your neighbor as yourself. If these are written on your heart, then as long as you are walking in the Spirit, then obey your conscience where the moral laws are written.

You are still a Judaizer preaching the letter of the law, and not walking in the Spirit. Obeying the food laws and keeping the Sabbath does not justify anyone in the eyes of God.

"did you receive the Spirit by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith? 3 Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh? 4 Did you suffer so many things in vain—if indeed it was in vain? 5 So then, does He who provides you with the Spirit and works miracles among you, do it by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith?"

It is interesting that for the 23 years I was an Adventist I never heard about walking in the Spirit.

Hello Bob.

Thus Leviticus 11 is a moral law according to you.

I would call Leviticus 11 a health law.

I am very into this kind of thing about what is in my food. No one can wash each cell of a food. The poisons (both cides; insect and herbicides) become part of the plant internally. That is why persistent herbicide infected plants are avoided in compost piles. They will kill your garden.

No one in America is eating food offered to idols. It is not offered in our grocery stores.

Your comment about Jer 31 can only be true if v 32 is deleted from the sentence.
