  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Madagascar and Australia, a question for creationists.

We know what radiometric decay rates are for elements. If they change you wouldn't want to live near a nuclear reactor!
We know that for the last hundred or thousand years or whatever, that nature was the same. When Jesus returns do you think that things wil be the same? Genetics? Decay? If nothing hurts or destroys why would a nuked world be allowed to radiate us all? People will live 1000 years! Lions will eat grass! Sound like same genetics to you?

No. Let's know what we are talking about and not claim nature was the same for no reason.
You are not going to get into heaven using that line, being negative does no one any good so why not try and find out what it was like back then? how would you go about doing that would you study tree rings, decay rates or ice cores?

You are not going to get into heaven using that line,
We get to heaven by believing in Jesus, not by winning a most clever line contest.

.. how would you go about doing that would you study tree rings, decay rates or ice cores?
I would study them to find out the past only up to a certain point! If I wanted to use them for the far past, I would ask if the same nature existed then.

No! We get there by believing in Bob Marley!

Some arbitrary point ya? sure sure ;)

Sure, and then make wild assumptions from that point? No thanks, I rather use science to learn more, but you do you, I'll do me..
Guess we can all relax now and accept the same state past belief. Thanks.

JD, ref your avatar, two questions:

1. Are you saying the Catholic church baptizes atheists?

2. Was John the Baptist born an atheist?

Luke 1:41 And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:

Luke 1:44 For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.

Well, I can only speak for myself,....I was born into a Catholic family and baptize as an infant. But tbh I was never really a believer as I'd always had doubts,....by the age of 10 everything clicked for me and I had to put up an act with my family,...the moment I gain independence, I moved out and dropped the act. My family never forgave me for not believing, and was cut off all contact from that point,...so thats my story in a nutshell

Ditto for my wife; but she doesn't buy that as an excuse not to get saved.

(Not saying you are using that as an excuse, mind you.)

We have a saying:

I'm a Christian by election and a Baptist by conviction.

I'm guessing that you manage to convince your wife,....but for me as a non believer, I don't see the need for any saving,....but I asked myself, what would convince me? I don't know,...but if there is a God, and he knows everything, he would know what it takes to convince me,....and since that did not happen, either he does not exist, or he doesn't want me to believe in him....either way it's fine by me.

"Rationalism is wrong when it assumes that religion is at first a primitive belief in something which is then followed by the pursuit of values. Religion is primarily a pursuit of values, and then there formulates a system of interpretative beliefs. It is much easier for men to agree on religious values—goals—than on beliefs—interpretations. And this explains how religion can agree on values and goals while exhibiting the confusing phenomenon of maintaining a belief in hundreds of conflicting beliefs—creeds. This also explains why a given person can maintain his religious experience in the face of giving up or changing many of his religious beliefs. Religion persists in spite of revolutionary changes in religious beliefs. Theology does not produce religion; it is religion that produces theologic philosophy.

That religionists have believed so much that was false does not invalidate religion because religion is founded on the recognition of values and is validated by the faith of personal religious experience. Religion, then, is based on experience and religious thought; theology, the philosophy of religion, is an honest attempt to interpret that experience. Such interpretative beliefs may be right or wrong, or a mixture of truth and error.

The realization of the recognition of spiritual values is an experience which is superideational. There is no word in any human language which can be employed to designate this "sense," "feeling," "intuition," or "experience" which we have elected to call God-consciousness. The spirit of God that dwells in man is not personal—the Adjuster is prepersonal—but this Monitor presents a value, exudes a flavor of divinity, which is personal in the highest and infinite sense. If God were not at least personal, he could not be conscious, and if not conscious, then would he be infrahuman." UB 1955
