  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why would God go against the use of natural herbs such as Salvia Divinorum, Marijuana, Peyote and Fungus's such as Psilocybin? surely they are created by him so who are we as humans to ban them from each other? Is this not illogical?

These plants can be dangerous to irresponsible users, causing side effects such as HPPD and bringing out psychosis. Although to the majority of others, cause deep and spiritual changes that effect their life positively, DMT is proven to be within the pineal gland (in brain) and is produced in the drink ayahuasca while proven to be detrimental to the abolishment of addiction in Meth, Cocain and Heroin addicts. LSD was used as one of the stages in Bill Wilson (Creator of Alcoholics Anonymous) steps to stopping alcohol addiction.

It is clear that these plants over many years were used by Shamans and religious leaders. Why must we stop research into there chemicals when there is clear therapeutic and medicinal benefits within them.

I would love to hear your two cents on this as i am very confused on Christianity's position on this. (being no mention of psychedelics being bad or good in the bible)

Christians shouldn't use psychedelics. See the movie "Altered States" for further details!
Your telling me Christians shouldn't use psychedelics because of a propaganda filled Sci Fi movie about natural plants that make you mutate into a beast? sorry but that seems extremely immature!

You should, its pretty good.

I don't see anything good about the destruction that alcohol has caused. I can't count how many people I personally know whose lives have been ruined by drinking. In the upper midwest being an alcoholic is socially acceptable, even a badge of honor to some, which is a real shame.

How can you call yourself a christian if you indulge in Drugs? Although didn't Jesus also indulge in DRUGS when he drinks wine? this is all seeming a little hypocritical!

I didn't call myself anything; I'm just a right-wing dude.

It makes life easier to take.

There are numerous verses that talk about moderation with alcohol. Most notably Ephesians 5:18, 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 and perhaps most notably 1 Peter 5:8 which states "Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour."

I suppose next you'll say if we don't advocate the use of DMT then we're hypocrites for drinking coffee?

But jesus drank wine, does that mean

So if the bible says that *moderation* is key to the use of alchohol then what does that say about other natural drugs? should they also be used in moderation?

You can consume alcohol without becoming drunk. Can you do your drugs and remain sober-minded?

When God created the Earth, He pronounced it 'good'.

Then there was that unfortunate incident with Eve, an apple and that snake. Things weren't so 'good' after that. So I'm not sure the 'God created plants' argument is completely correct.

There are numerous forms of plants which have 'odd' effects. The opium poppy is one such. It can be used as a very helpful medicine to ease pain. It can also be a seriously addictive and destructive drug if used improperly.

Alcohol is another such item.

Psychedelic substances strike me as in the same "maybe" category. I personally have no desire or need for such. (Pretty odd anyway.) Yes, I know they have been used by various and sundry folk - mostly non-Christian as I gather - for purposes of 'seeing' beyond normal abilities. That concept of 'seeing' without reliance on God gives me pause.

Anything which removes one from reliance on God is suspect in my mind. For that reason, I do not think a Christian should be employing such items.

Yes, you can, research "Microdosing" It can be done with almost all natural psychedelics.

What benefit does that give? I can see people wanting to drink small quantities of wine because they like the taste but what end does a microdose of mushrooms (for example) serve?
