  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Just for once let us all try to be honest.

We didn't forget that at all. We are simply pointing out that you do not follow all of the Bible.
But let's forget behavior for a while. Do you believe that dove's blood can cure leprosy? Does a goat looking at striped sticks bear striped young? Is the Earth flat? The Bible advocates all of these claims. Of course one can always reinterpret the Bible in light of today's knowledge, but if you do that it begs the question: Why oppose the theory of evolution in he first place?
I'm assuming that most or all of these questions are rhetorical.

It's standard "science can't explain it, so you can't either" rhetoric.

Just like God asked some seventy technical questions in the book of Job, scientists like to do the same.

We call that: diabolical mimicry.

The only difference is, God knew what He was asking ... scientists don't.

My apologies, as usual.

SZ has me trigger happy.

Again, my apologies.
Only one called for. You didn't have faith in me, that one is called for. The other I did screw up. Hit the wrong button and couldn't edit fast enough. You too good! :)

But please know, sincerly, I did not mean to offend.

No, it won't.

No power on Earth can do that.

It'll take an unholy trinity consisting of God's most powerful angel created to even threaten Christianity.

Your 'Atheist revolution' will be like trying to chase bears away with a squirt gun.

So don't go getting your hopes up.

It was a joke... but an "anarchic revolution" seems nice, scrap the rest though.

Well according to your [rocks head side to side] highly intelligent VAGUE reply [/rocks head side to side], it's 'fear, self deception, and in some cases greed.'

I don't even know how to address that.

I know, that is why you are still following ideas that have been known to be wrong well over a hundred years ago.

Wrong, those are all ideas that have been explained by science. Please, why all of the false charges about me tonight? That is not a very Christian way to act.

Just like God asked some seventy technical questions in the book of Job, scientists like to do the same.

No, there were rather silly questions asked by the author of Job, God was merely a character in that book. It is another example of writings in the Bible that have only have value as morality tales.

We call that: diabolical mimicry.

The only difference is, God knew what He was asking ... scientists don't.

You are simply repeating your errors now.

It seems that you are rather embarrassed about the origin of the Southern Baptist Church and are attacking those that point out there support for slavery. The wise thing to do would have been to admit your churches past transgressions but to point out their attempts to atone for their past. The Southern Baptist Church has admitted that they were wrong, haven't they?

Talk is cheap.

If you're wrong, then dissolve.

Should the KKK admit they're wrong, then keep meeting for coffee and doughnuts?

What better testimony to pro-slave scientists, than to dissolve?

I have a feeling though, you (and others) don't think they should.

And I think I know why.

ETA: And no ... LOL ... I'm not in the least embarrassed about the origin of this breakaway denomination.

If a group dissolves then they have as much as admitted that they were wrong. And they leave their wrongs uncorrected. They will forever have a bad reputation. I do like how you inadvertently compared the Southern Baptist Church with the KKK. If their is any value at all to any KKK beliefs the only way that they can show that would be to atone for their past evil acts. I doubt if they can find any valid reasons for existing. It seems that in your heart of hearts you might believe the same of the Southern Baptist Church.

And what "pro-slavery scientists"? There probably were some scientists that owned slaves in the past, none come to mind. Other scientists have pointed out that they were wrong. And science as a whole has made up for past wrong doings. It seems that you can't find any for your group.

Lastly, you are not embarrassed the the SBC broke off due to slavery issues? That is saying a bit too much about yourself.

Then perhaps you could tell me why I shouldn't be perplexed at why someone would join the SBA?

Especially someone of the caliber of a Turncoat Falwell?

Perhaps the SBA did not get started over the slavery issue?

Dunno.

But if it did, then I'm at a loss to explain why it's still going sans slaves.

Unless, of course, it's the love of money.

But even that doesn't make sense, as the Civil War should have bankrupted them.

...how badly in your opinion is creationism damaging the USA?....
Its terrible!

Not the overt effects so much as the way honest people are spiritually blackmailed into accepting deception and falsehood. I see this as morally damaging.

What about the bits that contradict the other bits? How do you believe both?
When properly studied, and when textual criticism is properly applied, I don't know of any contradictory bits in what we deduce was in the originals.
