If this is the way it would work, I can't imagine any reason for Trump to withdraw.If Trump has a terrible performance tonight and he does decide to withdraw, rather than risk the worst defeat in modern history, then the GOP will have to quickly find a replacement, probably Pence, and a new VP candidate. Then they would have to immediately contact all of the Sec of States and ask for ballot changes. Considering time constraints, the GOP would be lucky to get 20 or 25 states to change their ballots. This scenario would almost certainly end up in a Clinton victory, unless the Courts ruled that the Tump-Pence votes could be counted along with the Pence-new VP votes and that seems very unlikely.
