  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Dennis Rainey and his wife have a good series on preparing for marriage.

Others would be "Five Love Languages" by Gary Chapman; and (can't believe I am going to say this) "His Needs Her Needs" by Harley. Another one is "The Marriage Covenant" by Derek Prince.

On the sexual side of things I would suggest "The Gift of Sex" by Cliff and Joyce Penner. (they have several books out that may be useful)

I found these books really good -- Saving Your Marriage Before it Starts by Les & Leslie Parrott and Before You Say "I Do": A Marriage Preparation Guide for Couples by H. Norman Wright. And for after marriage, The First Five Years of Marriage by Phillip J. Swihart. Hope you will find these useful, as well. Bless you!

Are there any relationship books that you would recommend or have helped your own relationship in some way?

Yes, there is some very good books and brochures that show how to have a successful marriage, such as the 192 page book entitled "The Secret of Family Happiness", with such topics as "Preparing for a Successful Marriage", "Two Keys to a Lasting Marriage", "How Can You Manage a Household ?", "Train Your Child From Infancy", "Maintain Peace in Your Household", "You Can Overcome Problems that Damage a Family", "If Marriage is at the Breaking Point", "Growing Older Together", to name a few.

Then there is a 32 page brochure entitled "Your Family Can Be Happy", with topics as "Look to God for a Happy Marriage", "Be Loyal to Each Other", "How to Solve Problems", "How to Manage Money", "How to Keep Peace with Your Relatives", "How Babies Change a Marriage", "When Tragedy Strikes", to name most.
And both of these, along with much more, is found on the JW dot org website under PUBLICATIONS.
