• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have scrupulosity and it is only getting worse. I feel like i sold my soul and I pray but it seems God doesnt help. I try to pray and read the Bible but its hard to connect when im worrying. I've looked at posts of other people with these problems but i still cant let it go. It recently got much worse. I was at the mall and i told myself that if i let my scrupulosity get the best of me at a certain time then i would sell my soul. I forgot about saying that and later i ended up letting it take over. Now im worried i sold my soul. This happens quite frequently. At least once a day or so i get a bad worry like that but this one is worse. I feel horrible and i dont feel like doing anything. Nothing has any meaning and i feel horrible inside. I desperately need prayer. I keep reaching for God but nothing's really working. Please help by praying and giving me information on the subject to calm my heart and mind. Thanks so much

You may have attempted to sell your soul but God wants it back. He still loves you.

The following is a document about sin and how it works. Or more specifically the unpardonable sin. It shows all sin, including your soul selling is forgivable.

The bible mentions that there is an “unpardonable sin”, so what is it? All sin is pardonable according to the principal that the cross of Jesus was a Holy life given for our life time of sins. So there is technically no one sin that is unpardonable (Heb 9:27-28, 1Jn 5:16, 1Jn 1:7-9, 1Jn 2:1-2, Mat 18:21-22, Jas 5:19-20). However there is according to the bible an unpardonable sin. So what is it? The Pharisees in the bible called Jesus miracles a devil, and Jesus said “But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation.” Note even Jesus stated that although they were committing the unpardonable sin, they were only in danger of it being unforgivable. The unpardonable sin is linked to denying God’s Spirit, whether it be a miracle performed by God, or denying His written word. Why do people deny things of God, so they can continue to live in sin (Jn 8:42-44).

To understand this sin, we first need to discuss what salvation is. Salvation is not of works but of faith in Jesus substitutional death and resurrection for us (Rom 3:24, Rom 11:6, Gal 5:13), the word faith being similar to trust. We are not saved by perfectly following every command (Gal2:16, Gal 2:21), we are saved by the blood of Jesus that was shed as a sacrifice for us on the cross (Rom 5:1, Rom 5:9, Gal 3:11, Gal 3:24 ), and when we trust in that sacrifice we are saved. Even though there may be times we doubt our worthiness (1 Jn 3:20), God still knows us, and has promised to never leave or forsake us when we call to him (Jn 6:37). The blood that Jesus shed is His life given for our lifetime of sins (Heb 9:27-28), while we are not physically dead we can be forgiven by this sacrifice (1Jn 5:16), once we are physically dead there is no forgiveness if we have at our end denied Christ, but if we still believe in Jesus at our death, and apply it to our lives we will be saved. Basically while we still live there is hope for salvation and forgiveness.

If sin is covered by the blood by our faith, then the only unpardonable sin is a lack of faith, or the final abandonment of faith, no longer having a shred of belief, or believing but not being willing to come to Jesus for salvation. Basically no longer believing in Jesus, at that point of total and final denial we are no longer saved and have committed the unpardonable sin, while we can believe that Jesus can forgive us we have not committed the sin. We will latter discuss how a lack of faith is related to denying the works of the Spirit, for which the Pharisees were derided. As an example of what this sin is and is not, we may have even gone through a time of unbelief not believing the cross saves us after being saved but that is not the unpardonable sin (Jas 5:19-20), if we can still see the cross at any point we can be saved. The unpardonable sin would be if we refuse to believe Jesus will forgive us, when he is showing us we can be saved, an active not passive form of unbelief. Now we need to explain how a person actually loses faith.

The Pharisees were warned about committing the unpardonable sin due to their denial of the clear working of the Holy Spirit. They were not just in unbelief, they were clearly denying a powerful act of God, which incidentally leads to unbelief and blindness as we shall see latter on. Jesus said many times in the bible that the reason why people deny the Spirits working was so they could continue to live in sin. I believe the pathway to the unpardonable sin is a persistent denial of the voice of the Holy Spirit, or to deny an act so powerful of the Holy Spirit that God gives us over to total Spiritual blindness and ultimately death. Every time we deny the correction or voice of the Holy Spirit we are opening ourselves up for failure. So how does this blindness occur?

The bible says whoever we submit ourselves to we become their slaves. Sin leading to death, or obedience leading to life (Rom 6:16). Every time we deliberately sin we are submitting ourselves to bondage, the devil is the father of lies, when we submit to sin we give our self to one of his lying spirits, which has the potential to harden our heart (1 Ti 4:1-2). God actually allows this to happen, he hardens the sinner, and frees the righteous (2 Th 2:11). A person who is undergoing hardening, may complain a lot against God, have doubts, fears, etc. The only way for the heart to be softened is for them to return to obedience. Note not all complaint is based upon sin, but it is a symptom of sinning. But back to wilful sinning, a person may be punished temporarily for their sin, but God will attempt to restore them to obedience and blessing (Job 33:27), however if they refuse they will die without knowledge (Job 36:12). They key to this whole thing is the fact that a person who commits the unpardonable sin(s) will die without knowledge. Their faith will have been drained, they no longer believe. While you can still believe in Jesus you can be restored.

We also need to discuss what sins are damnable or lead to spiritual death. The bible says in Romans 14:22-23 “What you believe about these things should be kept between you and God. You are fortunate, if your actions don't make you have doubts. But if you do have doubts about what you eat, you are going against your beliefs. And you know that is wrong, because anything you do against your beliefs is sin”. The basic concept is that if we think something is a sin, and we do it we have sinned. Now not all sin is punishable, God punishes us less than our sins deserve (Ezr 9:13). But if we make a habit of sinning, i.e. wilfully pushing the boundaries, we may find ourselves moving away from God. Sin’s that I believe are not punishable are those ones we seemingly have no control over, we try not to sin but we end up doing it, small sins, or doubtful sins. It might be anger, swearing, or rudeness, skipping church, not praying enough, not witnessing hard enough, a character defect, or other weakness. God does not want you to leave Him based upon human weakness, the cross was given to cover these things, and provide us daily room for improvement. But wilful and rebellious sins (wanting to move away from God), hateful sins (choosing to harm others), purposely denying biblical commands, may lead to a time of correction (Job 33:27), and if we refuse to repent after being corrected (Job 36:12), may lead to Spiritual blindness, and ultimately the unpardonable sin.

There are people alive today who have committed the unpardonable sin, some were Christians, and some were never saved. But their heart is too hard to be restored. But remember Jesus could forgive them, He just chooses not to. The bible says of these people, God waited patiently for them to repent for a long time, but they refused so now they are damned (Rom 9:21-22). Judas was this kind of person, when Jesus called him as a disciple, Jesus said of him, “One of you is a devil”, Judas was already debase, so God used him for a debase purpose.

But let’s return to the facts, the cross covers all sins, your whole life time of sins. If you can perceive this you can be saved. Just repent, return to God.

Hi, i responded to someone before who was struggling with this. I am attacked everyday with this also but God has taught me how to cope with it. Hope this helps you.

It seems your in a great bondage of fear, i was there too but God showed me how to deal with it. Those intrusive thoughts you get are just that intrusive thoughts. They are not from your heart, they are not how you feel right? They are just attacks and you need to know how to deal with them. First you need to know.

2 Timothy 1:7 King James Version (KJV) 7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

1 John 4:18 King James Version (KJV) 18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

God did not give us the spirit of fear. We are being attacked by the enemy. We are in spiritual warfare. We need to put on the whole armor of God. Which is our Lord Jesus Christ. We are to be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. Know and believe what the Lord Jesus Christ did for us at calvary's cross. He sacrificed Himself for our sins, He died for us and was risen again by the Father for our justification.

How to deal with the attacks (intrusive thoughts) Do not pay them any attention. Do not ever think they are you thinking such things. Do not take responsibility for the intrusive thoughts. THEY ARE NOT YOU. So stop repenting and asking for forgiveness for something you don't feel. God knows your heart, remember that. God knows when you are having intrusive thoughts. He knows its not you. God knows us more than we know ourselves.

When you next have intrusive thoughts. You need to praise God. Thank God for loving you. say out loud *Thank you Jesus for loving me". Or say your own praises to God, from your heart. Remember who you are. You are a child of God. You are a new creature in Christ Jesus. Jesus blood covers you. You are made righteous through our Lord Jesus Christ. The past is dead and gone, the old you is dead and gone. Your sins have been forgiven and forgotten. You are a child of God, believe it.
Ignore the devil, do not give them any attention. Just praise God and they will flee.

James 4:7King James Version (KJV)7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

I have a whole notebook full of scriptures about what God teaches on, comfort, healing, love, forgiveness, comfort, trust, peace, strength, protection. 200 pages of written scriptures in my notepad that after i pray to God i will open randomly and there's always a comforting scripture from God that helps me through and keeps me holding on tight to God and not letting those intrusive thoughts get the better of me.
Here is an A-Z on what God tells us about different things in the Bible. https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Bible-Verses/

Trust God and his Word, Hold on tight to God. He loves you and doesn't want you to suffer. He will not let you fall.

Isaiah 41:10King James Version (KJV) 10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

I know exactly how you feel and I am going through the exact same thing and it's really scary to have these thoughts and especially the feelings but I know of the verse that says, "God works all things together for the good of those who love him." I don't know the exact scripture but I hoped it helped. I need some prayers please brother for the exact thing you are experiencing. God bless.
