In science one does not believe but either accepts or refutes. Believing is more to do with faith.
If the evidence is there then scientists who adhere to the laws of science will formulate a theory that explains those evidences and makes accurate predictions.

I believe unicorns pose a real challenge for scientists.

In other words, MYTHOLOGY is their COLD CASE FILES.

Calling it mythology puts the burden on lower class citizens (koine), whereas cold case would keep the burden on them.
