CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Not at all... literature becomes popular because it was special... and we can discuss the various reasons why that was -- some of which has nothing to do with the quality of the story or the writing. *cough*Twilight*cough*
But there's a difference between being popular because it's special, and being special because it's popular.
(Also, not to nit-pick, but I also teach grammar and writing skills, and there was no reason to capitalize "it...")

XD that book series will make people become wizards just as much as Pokemon will make people evolution supporters XD . I tried one spell as a kid after reading one of the books; it didn't work, so I just disregarded all the spells and enjoyed the story. It doesn't even depict magic remotely similar to that referenced in the bible, so even if biblical witches and wizards were real, those books wouldn't teach you how to be one, and it's pretty demoralizing to try the spells and have them fail as a little kid. But, even as a kid, I knew it was a work of fiction.

Recently I walked through the adolescent section of a bookstore and estimated that about 70 percent of the reading material displayed there was occultic.
We need to make this situation a matter of prayer in the body of Christ. One thing we can intercede for is that good Christian writers will rise up and top anything the occult world produces. We need biblically based books that are readable and will capture the interest of adolescents.
Why are books of the Harry Potter type so dangerous? To begin with, they are changing the basis of what we consider normative in our culture.
There was a day when those who read occult material were considered deviant, but this is no longer true. The Harry Potter books and others like them are entry-level occult tools that introduce readers to witchcraft, sorcery, spells and spiritual power apart from God. What begins as fantasy leads to real spells and potions. They are open doors for a person to become a practitioner of magic.

1. The media and some investigators, knowing little about the game Dungeons and Dragons, assumed it might have something to do with his disappearance. This was later found not to be the case. Your own source says that.
2. The way investigators thought it might be related had nothing to do with witchcraft, but the location in which students often played the game: the university steam tunnels. They thought the guy might have injured himself or gotten lost down there.
3. The only other incident relating to even the idea of a controversy about Dungeons and Dragons is how a murderer in 1988 offhandedly mentioned that he and his friends had mapped out the steam tunnels of a different university with the intent of playing the game there. That's it. Nothing to indicate that D&D was responsible for either the suicide and disappearance you mention, nor any other stories the Wiki brings up.
