  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Question to Protestants regarding certain Catholic beliefs

It seems to me that respect is a term used loosely here. I'm just about done with this site because of it.

Adios, Amigo!

Come back when you want to discuss Scripture instead of throwing around sound bites.

When people try to discuss scripture with "catholics" they are ridiculed. I don't know how many times "catholics" are going to be allowed to start a slanging match by calling people pathetic, uneducated, etc etc etc and yet the protestant gets in trouble for replying.

I'm going to step back and take a deep breath.

Okay...................I'm sorry. I hope you know that we Catholics get a lot of the same thing, and sometimes it does get to us. We are human, and some of the things that are said and done when one is trying to explain, using Scripture, get pretty darn annoying. We are constantly told that we depend on tradition and the "word of men" rather than Scripture, but when we try to exegete Scripture, we are told that we are twisting Scripture, etc.

I just get tired of dammmed if I do and dammmmed if I don't when it comes to trying to explain the Catholic faith.

Yes I know "catholics" get the same thing and I will defend you if I see it just like the other day when someone mentioned paedophilia in the RCC and I said that was unfair to single out the RCC for that. However because of what has gone on, mostly in this thread, I'm not taking a step back anymore. I gave you all my cheeks, you continued and I got in trouble for responding to it. I honestly don't care what you believe it's got absolutely nothing to do with me. Share your faith but do not put others down for theirs.

I care about truth and when someone tells me that such and such a person said in the year 512 ad, or whenever, that Mary was a virgin and remained a virgin I will ask for proof. Likewise when someone says Mary said this but that someone leaves out a small but important part of what we do know Mary said I will correct them. I do not expect myself or my reply to be called pathetic for doing so. If you can't take that it is your problem not mine. I can take being corrected but if you or any of your cohorts ever make the comment that anyone is being pathetic, or ignorant, or arrogant like has been said about me in this thread ever again and I see it I don't care what any mod says I will tell you to pull your head in. I am not taking rubbish like that for no good reason. This type of thing shouldn't have to be reported it should be acted upon without reporting.

This bit about the "catholic", as in RCC, being the only or true church is RUBBISH and it puts every Christian that is not a part of the RCC down. I will not stand for that. We are supposed to be Christians. We follow Christ not Peter, last I saw Peter was a mere mortal Christ is God. We are not supposed to be claiming the high ground we are supposed to be humble. If you or your cohorts don't understand that you have a problem.

Lastly I don't care if I get in trouble from the mod team again, this forum has a huge problem and it needs to be fixed. If anyone feels like reporting this post go ahead, I don't care, it shows who ever reports it just doesn't get what being a Christian is. We tell it like it is and if the people being told don't like it it's their problem.

I am counting on everyone here to keep things civil, addressing the contents of the post and not the poster.

So what does the "new Arc of the Covenant" supposed to symbolize, just a regular carrier? The Arc of the Covenant was strictly "stain free" and she is spoken in relation to that. We can just downplay the symbology given to her in revelation, because the gospel of Luke also states she was full of grace (kecharitomene).
.

I think it suffices to say that there are a number of ways of understanding that verse, so it's far from a conclusive proof of something like an "Immaculate Conception," and I hoped that we wouldn't start into a "tis so" "tis not" kind of exchange over that.
.

The Greek word kecharitomene is also used in Sirach 18:17 where it speaks about a generous man. This man is not sinless, since it is an advice meant for us all. This fact speaks against understanding Luk 1:28 speaking about Mary being sinless - it speaks about her being wise or generous

1. Referring to Mary as the Mother of God.
> Why are protestants so against this title, when it is actually true in away. If you don't deny that Mary is the actual mother of Jesus, likewise do not deny that Jesus was also fully God, then what is the problem? Isn't saying Mary is the mother of Jesus, saying "Mary is the mother of God"? I mean, Elizabeth said "the mother of my Lord" to her, and Revelations does talk about her in such a high fashion. Catholic's don't believe this statement means she is above or pre-exists God but just making sure that the divine nature of Jesus is not denied.

God is Spirit... God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:24

Mary gave birth to the flesh and blood man, Jesus Christ.

God became flesh. John 1:14

He was made a little lower than the angels.

But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone. Hebrews 2:9

That was good enough to end the conversation as far as I'm concerned.

Critical thinking:

"O Mother of Perpetual Help, thou art the dispenser of every grace that God grants us in our misery; it is for this cause that He hath made thee so powerful, so rich, so kind, that thou mightest assist us in our miseries. Thou art the advocate of the most wretched and abandoned sinners, if they but come unto thee; come once more to my assistance, for I commend myself to thee. In thy hands I place my eternal salvation; to thee I entrust my soul. Enroll me among thy most faithful servants; take me under thy protection and it is enough for me: yes, for if thou protect me, I shall fear nothing; not my sins, for thou wilt obtain for me their pardon and remission; not the evil spirits, for thou art mightier than all the powers of hell; not even Jesus, my Judge, for He is appeased by a single prayer from thee. I fear only that through my own negligence I may forget to recommend myself to thee and so I shall be lost. My dear Lady, obtain for me the forgiveness of my sins, love for Jesus, final perseverance and the grace to have recourse to thee at all times, O Mother of Perpetual Help.

Who is MARY really???

Yet, catholics adamantly claim they don't pray to Mary.
