• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Adam was made from the dust of the ground.....

I think the technical term for all this is "sifting."

As in, God sifted out just the right amount of ingredients to create the perfect man.

He also required His followers to do the same ... by Law.

Exodus 30:35 And thou shalt make it a perfume, a confection after the art of the apothecary, tempered together, pure and holy:

Isaiah 30:24 The oxen likewise and the young asses that ear the ground shall eat clean provender, which hath been winnowed with the shovel and with the fan.

So, if we are invited to believe that the above verse is literally true, how is it that the human body is 18% carbon by weight, with only trace amounts of silicon present.

The dust of the ground, and man are no longer the same thing.

That's why we call one of them "Man"....like", "Hey, man!" rather than "Hey, Dusty"
though that might be said sometimes.

Just so we are clear, the chemical content of the human body is completely different from the chemical content of soil, dust, dirt, or anything found in the ground. There is no way using any method known to man or not known to man that dust could be animated. Like many of the things God does, He chose a method everyone would know to be impossible when He formed Adam from the dust.

I think the point of the original story was that
we are not made out of Angel-Dust. We matter.

I couldn't have put it better myself.

You mean you are not reading it literally? Goodness me. Is the world about to come to an end, I ask myself.

Are you saying the chemical compounds in the human body cannot be found anywhere on earth? If so, can the chemicals that are found on earth be combined to create those chemicals which are found in the human body?

Isn't the human body a factory that combines and creates other chemicals?

On earth, yes. IN earth, now. Our chemical composition is different than dirt.
Isn't the human body a factory that combines and creates other chemicals?
That factory didn't open until God installed the ventilation system.

Ventilation system; ie God breathed the breath of life.

Artificial respiration at it's finest. Not sure the history of our use of the process, but it seems to me, someone should have picked up on that very practical medical application offered by the Bible a long time ago.

It doesn't really matter, what the bible has to say.
Given the choice between the word of God and the theories of man I'll stick with the word of God.
Have you sold your car yet? You need to sell it and stop using all forms of energy other than wind and solar because your lifestyle is destroying the planet. Oh, and you'd better not have children because the earth's ability to produce food has been overtaxed.

You want to believe that you can pump out as much pollution as you like, and that the Earth has an infinite capacity to produce food.

Is that why you don't believe in the "theories of man"?

Given the choice between religious assertions and evidence based, testable models of reality, I'll stick with the evidence based, testable models of reality.

No idea what your point is here.

He doesn't believe in the "theories of man" when it comes to evolution, and, by extension, that gives him a licence to disbelieve any other theories he finds inconvenient.

Conservative religion and conservative politics seem to go hand in glove in the United States.

I know "The Population Bomb" was based on junk science, as was the Silent Spring, as was the coming ice age, as was global warming; not called climate change because all the models failed and the earth is on a 17 year cooling pattern. I don't regard climatology as a science in the least. It's nothing but a self-perpetuating liberal scam paid for by the unwilling dollars of the American taxpayer. Meanwhile, people like Al Gore make millions of dollars investing in "green energy" projects that are over-funded by the government and yield almost no return. The fact is that the air is cleaner than it was 50 years ago. We don't have a pollution problem in America. We have a problem with over-regulation and corruption. Science has been co-opted to conform to social engineering. It's become closer akin to prostitution than to sound research.

Regarding the "science" of evolution, if it were introduced today it would be considered an interesting theory, but inconclusive. Nothing observable varies in any way from what we would expect to see coming from the various species after the flood. Each reproduces after it's own kind. And no, kind is not a scientific classification. Only man classifies animals into organized families. You don't see such structure in the Bible. Evolution stands in direct contrast with the word of God regarding our origin, so by definition evolution is false. We were created by God. We dd not evolve. Man's sin brought death and disorder into the world. There IS a consequence to sin despite what others try to tell you and you you try to tell yourself.

Your interpretation of reality is entirely subjective. Reality does not stop at the boundaries of the physical world. It includes the totality of existence. It includes things which are not testable.
