  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What is the greatest evidence against the theory of evolution...?

How are the patterns of shared ERV's inconsistent with common ancestry?
It isn't inconsistent, but just because it may be consistent does not mean that common ancestry is the reason ESVs are shared. That is just an easy explanation from the evolutionary standpoint, and so you take it.

The lack of evidence for God is why I don't believe in God.
Well, luckily for you God reveals Himself to the hardest of hearts. Would you believe me if I told you I was once an atheist?

I elaborated what I meant in the rest of the post you decided not to post. Humans having the position of most intelligent animal is a shaky application, because what qualifies as intelligence isn't standardized, and some animals are better at certain cognitive tasks than humans. And before you mention something like IQ, that is a human exclusive measurement that cannot be applied correctly to any other species.

In terms of evolution it IS standardized. We conquered the world. We defeated ALL animals easily. That is the standard.
We are way way more intelligent than animals, and more intelligent than the combination of all animals.

And as I've already stated, you believe YOUR INTERPRETATION of the Bible. Communication requires comprehension of at least two parties. What if God's Word is true, but you haven't interpreted it correctly? You are placing infallible faith, not only in god, but in yourself.

If observations of life contradict what you believe about the Bible, then perhaps it is not the Bible that needs to be twisted, but your understanding of it. For example, maybe that isn't quite what so and so meant, since observing god's creation tells me something different.
Well, the Bible is pretty easy to understand if you know what words mean. I'm pretty confident that the Bible doesn't teach evolution.

Care to explain how our eyes came to be without a designer? How design arises from chaos?

You mean you have not understood the basic mechanism of evolutionary change?
Nor the depth of research that has gone into addressing the genuine detail of what happened in the evolutionary history of the eye?

" a 1994 study led by Dan-Eric Nilsson and Susanne Pelger of Lund University in Sweden which considered the specific adaptive steps necessary to evolve from a flatworm eyespot to a complex eye of a vertebrate. University of Chicago professor Jerry Coyne refers to the same study in his book Why Evolution is True (Penguin 2009). Given the approximate number of generations that would be required to reach the goal, the investigators determined that the entire process of evolution could be accomplished in about 400-500,000 years. In other words, there was ample time for independent evolution of eyes in dozens of groups of animals."

Do you know what the original (Hebrew/Greek/Aramaic) words meant? The idioms of their times? The writing styles? The literary devices? Etc. Etc.

Then why do you take the words of men in the Bible over God's own creation?
I believe the Bible was inspired by God' Spirit and that the theory of evolution is a Godless lie--it creates all sorts of problems, like death before sin.

Because evolution is a lie.

What lies?

Sure, but it's obvious you never had the Spirit.

Just as you have never had Leprechaun magic in the soles of your feet, and for the same reason.

If you did then you would still be a Christian.

It would appear that all you need to believe is wanting something to be true, evidence be darned.

It's not that hard to study and figure out. That's what the translators had to do.

God is not a liar, man is.
Please make up your mind. Let me help you, all of the evidence supports the theory of evolution. None of it supports creationism. All of the evidence tells us that there was no worldwide flood. None of it supports the Noah's Ark story. Your God supposedly created this world. That would include the evidence. By saying that the Genesis must be read literally you are saying that God lied.

You can't have it both ways.
