  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

They are the same thing, in my opinion. Trying to be the best person one can be is to strive for perfection. To try being only half perfect is not trying to be the best.
Just to be clear, you're trying to be perfect, but you know you can't, and require some sort of mercy to ease your conscience because of it?

No not exactly. Its about a relationship with God. The scriptures say God is our father. Sons usually want to please their fathers and be like them. THis isn't always seen in our earthly relationships, but with God it is.

Wouldn't be the weirdest thing in a religious text.
Also, I wonder if he thinks Moses crossed the Reed Sea (or Sea of Reeds), not the Red Sea.

Or, *cough* scholars* cough* believe donkey's and serpents speak, wood turns into snakes, people rise from the dead and walk on water...
* cough *

Donkey's [sic] ... plural?

Probably.

I wouldn't put it past them.

What good is it to waste your life arguing with people? At least a Christian sees a purpose in it. However, if i were an atheist i wouldn't bother, because life is short.
Once again, I am trying to help the poor ignorant people out there. They tend to hurt themselves and others when they insist that fairy tales are true.

If your actions were hypocritical wouldn't you want to know so that you could correct those errors, I know that I want want that for myself.

You would not try to help people in need? That is too bad.

Tearing down peoples faith, on the internet, is not my idea of help. If i were an atheist, who didnt believe in the Resurrection of the dead, i wouldn't waste my short life tearing others faith down, but would instead enjoy what little time i have left. Unless of course i enjoyed endless hours of mind numbing argument, that only cause people more harm than good, then i might do that.

A person's faith does not have to be torn down. One can still be a Christian and accept reality. Most Christians seem to do so. I am not trying to tear anyone down, I am trying to build them up.

You mean the fairytale of dead unconscious things performing miracles?
Indeed, a poor and ignorant belief...
Only deep indoctrination could have anyone believe that.

No you're not. You are only causing division and strife, quite needlessly, over fallible theories of science. If you actually wanted to build people up you might try reminding them how they are supposed to feed the poor and help each other. That would build people up in truth, and help the whole world as well.

There are no miracles in the theory of evolution. Now some people that have a very poor understanding of the fact that life evolved may believe this, but that is not excuse on their part to run to another blatant fairytale.

I have seen many strawman representations of the theory of evolution and of course it is always possible to tear down a strawman. It is not so easy to tear down reality

Of course science may be fallible. But religions are all failed to date. Science has an advantage over religion. It has a self correcting mechanism. And educating people so that they can make a better world is helping them too. And merely feeding the poor does little good. One needs to educate them so that they can make a better life for themselves too. If you just feed them they will be hungry again tomorrow. Teach them and they will be feeding themselves and others.

If your faith gets torn down by someone talking about well evidenced science, it might be time to rethink your faith.

He would've kind of had to, wouldn't he?
