  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Archaeoraptor was another one. It fooled the staff at Nat. Geo., but no professionals were taken in by it:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archaeoraptor
Yes, I'd forgotten about that one. There will definitely be others, though not all so high profile. A book looking at the history of such hoaxes, their motivations, effect on the general public and scientists, how the hoax was found out, etc. could make a good read. I feel a whole, new career coming on! (Based on prior experience another member will now reveal that the book already exists and I shall weep for lost opportunity.)

Meanwhile the number of Christian hoaxes and hoaxers are in the thousands. Of course when you give an example of a fraudulent Christian the defense is almost "Well he is not a real Christian".

Hey, don't knock the Unicorn Tapestries. I used to go visit them at The Cloisters in New York. They're very nice.
Did you get to ride My Little Pony? ;)

Irrationality in support of bogus evidence has often cropped up. However, a court of law is the least likely place where one would expect such a display. Very sad indeed.

Very sad indeed.

The big difference is they are not claiming it is science......And they aren't real Christians, just like any scientist faking evidence to prove a theory is not a scientist. Or would you disagree with that statement and claim they are still scientists?????????

So your point was what exactly?????

So you're buying the Hallmark version of what a unicorn looks like?

If so, do you also buy into their version of cherubim as being cute little babies, posing for their picture?

Or do you accept the Rose is Rose version of the cherub ... one of God's elite fighting angels?

Why would I accept the hallmark version of cherubs being little babies anymore than I would accept the hallmark version of unicorns being one-horned horses????? I'm confused as to why you think I would accept a pagan belief either way????? Apparently you did not read very well, since I was objecting to the hallmark version. What part of "People need to stop spreading myths of some horse with a horn" did you find to imply I was supporting that version???

Okay ... um ... let's back up and try this again.

I submit that unicorns are in the Bible and they are examples of animals that existed that are not on Linnaeus' list today.

This means they are not "ponies with horns," hippopotamuses, narwhals, or anything else codified.

If an individual trains as a scientist, pursues research in a scientific discipline and publishes their results in a peer reviewed journal then they are a scientist. If they fake elements of their work then they are dishonest scientists who are not following the scientific method.

Let us know when you find out.

As the Apostle Paul said: Finding out the obvious should be unnecessary and claiming not to see it is inexcusable.

Romans 1:20
For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.

Here are some scriptures which Christians believe express the undeniable truth.

Psalm 36:9

NIV
For with you is the fountain of life;.....

Psalm 104:30

N I V
When you send your Spirit, they are created,.....

"For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist."
Colossians 1:16-17, KJV

"Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created."
Revelation 4:11, KJV

I am personally not big on relying on scripture to identify truth.

Doesn't mean you can't be though.

I never claimed that my belief in the existence of an ID is based merely on scripture. I clearly said that the scriptures are provided as an example of the Christian view.

I also provided the Apostle Paul Paul's statement concerning the reason why inferring a creator is the most logical conclusion based on things which are observed.

I did this in order to prevent this constant erroneous and persistent allegation that Christians have only scriptural support for belief in a creator.

BTW
If indeed you wish to believe that unicorns might appear via mindless abiogenesis followed by mindless evolution-that is OK by me. But from a Christian standpoint, any creature anywhere no matter how bizarre it might be-whether it be of this dimension or any other, or whether it be of another universe different from or similar to ours, is assumed to have been created by the source of all life which is referred to as God. Not because the Bible or any other religious book tells us so-but because the living things in existence indicate it.

But they are "real Christians" quite often. They believe, but they don't mind cheating. And if you look at the people behind most scientific hoaxes it appears that they are not scientists. The person behind Archaeoraptor was a Chinese man that saw there was quite a bit of interest in specific fossils, so he made one. They still aren't sure who made the skull that became "Piltdown man". But the sad fact is that there are thousands of Christian frauds for every scientific one. From small scale local conmen to leaders of mega-churches, you will find people that take advantage of the beliefs of others. To make a con in the science world takes a lot more effort and tends to be less monetarily rewarding.
