Yeah. "but this time I've really found the truth guys. Believe me!"
What if he went back to being a Protestant pastor? Now that would be a shock.

If that happened I think that would beg the question, "do you really believe any of this?"

To be fair to Jeff, he said he didn't leave the catholic church for theological reasons, but because he had a falling out with his biological father.
Yeah I read where he was saying he was rebelling more against his father than the Church.

Many Catholics who come home - reverts - are stronger than before.
The only thing Protestants do is push them to read the Bible - which is ok.
However; once they see the historical view of the Church - they can then understand scriptures - they grow stronger.
Most nominal Catholics who attend Church - don't have a lot of background in researching their faith.
Thats why so many leave or lose heart.
They're not grounded enough.

So converts and reverts can generally be very good for the faith.

I'm a convert. But I think I kind of have something in common with cradle Catholics since I didn't know very much about the Catholic faith when I was baptized into the Church. I just knew about the basics.

Maybe it's because he lets people know that he used to be a Protestant, and it colors your perception of him.
Certainly possible. Have already said openly that it could just be my own personal issue. A prejudiçe, if you prefer. But there is to me a big difference in the way a protestant minister teaches and the way a Catholic one would. To my ears it simply sounds like he has retained some of the style he developed as a protestant pastor.

Yeah I would not say he is great but Cavins and Hahn make a pretty good team together imo.
why wouldn't you say he's great? There is nothing wrong with Cavin's. He teaches straight up, or use to. he's a traveling show now I think. If anything he is making Benjamins as a Catholic scholar. He use to be normal. I can't speak for anyone now days.

To be fair, you know how many years ago you are talking about? Use to be Protestants make better Catholics then Catholics who never went anywhere do.They have a better appreciation. The man has been teaching normal Catholic stuff for over 20 years. I don't know what he's into now as far as orthodoxy goes. I don't know what anybody is into anymore as far as orthodoxy goes. He use to do bible studies and he had some youth show on EWTN years ago. He travels to parishes doing bible study. There's nothing wrong with him. Or at least there wasn't anything wrong with him. have no idea what he's like now. I just know he was at my parish as while ago.

The ignorance and slander you all are talking about this man... what is up with that? Cavin's as been around for, like, ever and he was normal, not like these nuts teach now. No one has seriously never heard of him? No wonder everybody seems so lost.

I hate to say this because it's judgmental on my part, but when he was on ewtn I found him to have a decidedly "Protestant style," if that makes any sense. I always felt like I was watching some baptist youth pastor. The material he taught was good. I think it was just his delivery that bothered me. I remember that occasionally he would sub for Mother Angelica on her show. I turned the tv off when that happened.
Wow. You know I find you to have that Protestant style... Cavin's is straight up. Everybody else has lost their minds.

Just knowing that he went Catholic - Protestant - Catholic makes me a bit leery if I'm honest. Like, did he return to Catholicism packing some Protestant 'nuggets' thinking Catholicism could benefit from that stuff?
No. That's baloney. Don't pay any mind to what anyone says around here with their ignorant judgy ways. He was solid, normal, 20 years ago but now, who knows? Catholics aren't what they use to be.

Well Bene. Once again, you are offering an opinion with low information. I think my 54 years of Catholicism and my many years of education superseded your uninformed opinion. If you want to have a contest on who knows Catholic theology tradition and spirituality, I'm in. Your move.

As for slander, I've seen that used here against the vicar of Christ ?
Why should Jeff Cavins be specially immune?
