I have trouble implementing the truth into this dense mind of mine. I have confessed the same sins over and over, have told God I need a Savior, and I believe Jesus is that Savior, and I'm scared and need him to love me and be my friend.

I don't know if I'm not yet a Christian or whether I'm a Christian who is having problems believing and trusting. What do you think? Has anybody had this struggle before?

Check with Paul himself from Acts 16 29-31:
“The jailer called for lights, rushed in and fell trembling before Paul and Silas. He then brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.””

Paul expounds upon that a bit in Romans 10:9-10
“If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.”

That's it. The baptism is a public demonstration of your faith and represents you dying to yourself and rising with Christ but it doesn't save you.

It can be a challenge to accept that's all it takes. As humans we want to integrate some sort of ceremony or process or work to enhance our salvation but none of that is needed. If works saved you, then Jesus died in vain.

If you have followed Paul's instructions above, you're a Christian. Now live your life following biblical principles. Live every day with the intention that people will know you're a Christian by your actions.

it is so in the faith that: more worrisome is the question (about) what will happen if there is no overall salvation in the true Lord God, and to think about it is worth much more than to worry about your own life, the selfishness is one of the strivings of the fear and the flesh, actually the main that drives the unrighteousness, that fear is usually what has stopped many worshipers from working for overall salvation in the true God(1 John 4:17-21), Jesus Christ came to save not Himself but as many others as possible, and it is written: "He laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren"(1 John 3:16), this means that we at least think about this issue to realize what is more and most worth, it is like the difference between investment for one lifetime and zillions of lifetimes, including for your benefit...

Blessings

looking4joy, I know you know that our sins aren't greater or carry more weight than Yeshua's sacrifice.

You're at the point of believing what Scripture says about it. We're to take every thought captive (II Cor 10:5) and renew our minds with His Word (Rom 12:2). So when the I don't know if I've saved thoughts come, encourage you to replace them immediately with Scriptures such as ""If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." I John 1:9 "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." Rom 10:13 "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." Rom 10:9 Plus you may have to do this numerous times, encourage you to be persistent.

Where is the water baptism in Romans 10:9-10, John 3:15-16? The "public demonstration of your faith" is mans tradition. Come on now, quote me a whole bunch of scripture about "baptize in the name of the father, the son, and the holy ghost." Then explain why Jesus told His disciples to do that in that manner.

Water baptism is an act of obedience and honor by identifying self with Christ against the unbelieving world ---it honors God in saying: I am determined to be on your side for my walk. Salvation then is more than an act or works, but in receiving Jesus Christ into one's heart and being devoted to Him in one's walk and life. I usually say we should make the Lord Jesus our best Friend always (hopefully one knows what that might mean).

God says: "...he that hath the Son hath life" --KJV (meditate on 1 Jn. 5:10-13). It speaks of honoring the Father and the indwelling and sealing of the Holy Spirit. Walking and talking with the Lord Jesus will keep one at peace and having assurance forever.

What you have said about water baptism is all traditions of man. It sounds good when preached, to a people that doesn't read or study their bibles. Also, there is no scripture that says we need to receive Jesus in our hearts, or asking Jesus to come into our hearts, this is more good preaching to a people that don't read or study their bibles. And now you have coined another phrase, "make the Lord Jesus our best friend," some more preaching that sounds good from the pulpit but it doesn't feed the sheep. Just more talk to fill up the time. Preachers should preach scripture, from the bible, and stick to the scripture, no babbling about things that are not in scripture.

Mat 3:1 About this time, John the Baptist appeared, preaching in the Judean wilderness
Mat 3:2 and saying, "Repent, because the kingdom from heaven is near!"
Mat 3:3 He was the one the prophet Isaiah was referring to when he said, "He is a voice calling out in the wilderness: 'Prepare the way for the Lord! Make his paths straight!'"
Mat 3:4 John had clothing made of camel's hair and wore a leather belt around his waist. His diet consisted of locusts and wild honey.
Mat 3:5 Then the people of Jerusalem, all Judea, and the entire region along the Jordan began flocking to him,
Mat 3:6 being baptized by him in the Jordan River while they confessed their sins.

Mat 3:7 But when John saw many Pharisees and Sadducees coming to where he was baptizing, he told them, "You children of serpents! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?
Mat 3:8 Produce fruit that is consistent with repentance!
Mat 3:9 Don't think you can say to yourselves, 'We have father Abraham!' because I tell you that God can raise up descendants for Abraham from these stones!
Mat 3:10 The ax already lies against the roots of the trees. So every tree that isn't producing good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.
Mat 3:11 I am baptizing you with water as a token of repentance, but the one who is coming after me is stronger than I am, and I am not worthy to carry his sandals. It is he who will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
Mat 3:12 His winnowing fork is in his hand. He will clean up his threshing floor and gather his grain into the barn, but he will burn the chaff with inextinguishable fire."
Mat 3:13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John.
Mat 3:14 But John tried to stop him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and are you coming to me?"
Mat 3:15 But Jesus answered him, "Let it be this way for now, because this is the proper way for us to fulfill all righteousness."At this, he permitted him to be baptized.
Mat 3:16 When Jesus had been baptized, he immediately came up out of the water. Suddenly the heavens opened up for him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him.
Mat 3:17 Then a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love. I am pleased with him!"

What I said is putting into plain words for those not reading the Word of God ---the NT biblical truth. Those who really know the "Word of Truth" will appreciate that, and others who are yet seekers can apply the simple explanation to see what Scripture shows. What I said is NOT "all traditions of man" as you say, MWood, and I suggest you study it out from a sound Bible --KJV.

I stand on what I have said, which is a sound application; and quoting Bible verses is good (if not taken out of context), and I value "all the counsel of God" as the Apostle stated. How the Bible verses are interpreted is critical, and I am not sure how you apply them, MWood.

Jebadoa spoke the truth herein!

So, what you are doing is doubting that God will hold to His Word? Do you think that a holy God can break His covenant with you?

Yep. When I'm in that thinking mode I am doubting that God will hold to His Word. Sometimes my view of God gets skewed and I fall prey to a false concept of what God's character really is about. In that thinking, yes I would think that God would break His covenant with me.

But the Holy Spirit searches me deeper than you do. He knows my heart, my willingness to believe, and my struggle to believe. He brings me around. No one on the forum can.

Well I am glad to hear that the Holy Spirit speaks truth to you.

Know that God is righteous and He CANNOT break His covenant with you. That is what is so wonderful about God, His promises never are not kept. His love is unconditional for you. Go to God in prayer when you feel weak and when you hear that little voice doubting say "that is not what God says, He says I WILL NEVER LEAVE YOU or forsake you".

Sometimes we need to quiet our thinking and spiritually just focus on God. There is a radio station called "KLOVE" it is here http://www.klove.com/ At the top of the page there is a "Listen Online" button. Good worship music helps me a lot. I listen everyday and it grounds me. Try it. Ok?

God bless you.

You should continue to believe and trusting in Him. Only those who endure to the end will be saved. No advance salvation assured!

 ,

1 Corinthians 13:4-7. Apply to self with repetition until there is no doubt (time is fluid and it may take some for you or maybe not) . Imagine Grace as a title wave and we are ants on the beach. Love "self" like that for a season and repetition where before you read scripture read that first and perception will change in you in His will and time . People will see the change in you in time too. When one realizes , Galatians 5:22 will manifest in you. However, like you said looking4 , in Gods will.

I too used to beat self up until "I" moved over and let God. In picture, it was a greedy soaking of His love to self. Then one year this verse hit me strait in the heart of hearts... I love because "HE" loved me first. And God had to love me a whole bunch for a long time then people started noticing the Gomer Pile smile stuck on my mug, ^_^. Love self looking4  and it will manifest to others in time and His will. Matthew 22: 37-39 , now change the order around to self first (which is God loving us first) which will manifest to others in time (love thy neighbor) as you learn to love self and further down the time line realization of love God with all our hearts and mind . For me, looking4, the verse that says "the last will come first" spoke to me in changing order of Matthew 22:37-39 (for a season) . However in context it was referring to another subject, yet in retrospect of my own "looking4" self had to be loved first as in verse 39. Prayers to you, that you find the last part of your CF handle... Joy. In hopes this helps.

The above quote applies to post 19 too.

How does one explain a love affair with Light? When we compare self to Light we always get burned, Why? Look at Genesis 1:4 . Do we see judgment on the darkness by God? Humanity alone puts the default bad in the slot of darkness for we are granted choice , right? When we compare selves to Light it is the darkness that prompted the comparison, right? Thus we have doubt after said comparison because we are taught to ??? Judge , right? Our very id is set up to judge and for a Christian this can be a major stumbling block to healing of self. It takes a gargantuan effort to change our minds to minds of forgiveness . We are not set up to think in this mode of forgiveness in our taught behavior cycle. Self is included in the verse 1 John 1:20 .

That is not to say we do not love ourselves but to say we judge ourselves and hate the sin found inside selves when darkness prompted a comparison to Light/God. In a mind of hate/judgment is the crux to JOY , correct? It steals it , always , right?

Some food for thought and prayer... We are born in sin and as life proceeds in the time line we start to realize sin is us. Yet God sent His begotten son (Light) to be slaughtered by darkness (Us) and as is written "Forgive them Father for they know not what they do". For me , this applies to me comparing self to Light too. One will drive self mad if one continues down that road. What I found to be a truth is a situation will drastically change in the physical or mental process of one of His children. Thus, these missives to the mentality of looking4 in my own experiences that may or may not find a mark of truth to rejoice in. As we focus the lens upon selves firstly in a love (Agape) so profound our sin is forgotten with no doubt and we change our very way of thinking from comparison/judgment to Light (which always equals "I sin". Yet not realized is... Of course we sin. We sinned in the very comparison to Light for darkness prompts it  Romans 3:10. ) to a changed mind of forgiveness of first self others and we eventually find God put Joy in the heart and we love Him most of all for supplying peace in our heads and/or again Galatians 5:22.

That above was not immediate for me. It takes seasons Looking4 . Patients in finding your order in your head in His time. Prayers friend.
