Doctors are the third leading cause of death in this country. So you better be careful not to trust Science in the way you seem to advocate.
I can't figure out if you're really that stupid or if you're actually intelligent enough to twist the facts to fit your own point of view.. I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and go with the 2nd option. (and you know what I'm talking about)
Anyone that can get themselves to the hospital does not need to be there.
Starting to doubt that you intentionally twisted the facts.. That was a bad statement.
Doctors push a lot of medicine when according to Dr Ornish and others: diet, exercise and behavior modification would be a much better option with a much less chance of remission.
First you attack the doctors and then use a doctor to postulate a point? Really?
Oh.. and by the way.. its been proven that Ornish's ideas don't hold water. You might want to do some research before you hold someone up on a pedestal like that.
I'm not going to bother quoting the rest of your post because its basically half-truths mixed in with fertilizer. But here are the scientific facts, and them I'm going to back them up with my own empirical evidence and experience.
Some child obesity research doctor out of UCLA (San Fransisco branch?) attached some radioactive tags to some sugar molecules and followed them through the metabolic process, and discovered why everyone is fat. What he found is that sugar is the cause of almost all cardiovascular disease.. but not just any sugar.. specifically a sugar called Fructose which is found in all fruits, and table sugars and added sugars (50% glucose / 50% fructose).
Every organ and every cell in your body can burn glucose for energy.. glucose is required for life. But there's only one organ in your body that can metabolize fructose which is the Liver, and the Liver can only metabolize it into one thing called LDL Cholesterol (the bad kind of cholesterol)..
Now, the scientific findings were pretty straight forward.. our modern technological tools are what enabled him to perform these experiments as these resources were not available in the past.
The evidence is not just empirical, he also carries corroborating statistical information dating back past the early 1900's to back it up. Charts showing statistical obesity rates vs. the amount of sugar consumed for the time period.
And, since I am an middle aged fat guy with a cholesterol problem, I followed his advice and dropped my bad cholesterol by 30% in 6 months even though I didn't actually lose any weight.
The problem is sugar.. its everywhere.. in our ketchup, breads, cereals, mayonnaise, spices, processed meats, etc etc.. I was stunned at how hard it is to buy food without added sugars. Ever noticed that sugar is not found anywhere in nature except fruits once per year?
The next logical argument.. "Well fruits have fructose so this research says fruits are bad for you too?" The answer is both a yes and a no but I'll give you the short explanation.
Fruit juice is horribly bad for you, even if its 100% squeezed from the fruit because the fiber is taken out and its the high fiber content of the fruit that stops the body from absorbing much of the fructose. Also, during human evolution, we only ate fruits at the end of summers when they ripened on the trees.. after that, no fruits until the next year.
Its actually more in depth than that but that's the easy version.
So should you eat fruits? Absolutely.. Eat the whole fruit.. It was determined that the amount of fiber in the fruit greatly diminishes the detrimental affects of the fructose that makes them taste so good.
The fact is that any diet that causes you to lose weight is also going to have some positive health effects.. and a lot of people attribute those positive effects to the wacky Dr.Someone diet plan when the actual diet had nothing to do with it.
If you're going to dispute someones post, you should dispute it with cold hard facts.. twisting the facts or using terminology to hide the true meaning of those facts is not honorable. Specifically, doctors are not the leading cause of death, hospital errors caused by human mistakes are.
Do you know what the latest field of study is??? Can you guess? Its about eliminating those hospital mistakes! There are entire research articles devoted to this stuff.
I can never decide who I enjoy debating with more.. Complete idiots, or people intelligent enough to twist factual information... The idiots are more entertaining.. the intelligent people require more work... Its rare when I find someone who is actually smart enough and honorable enough to hold their opposing side without distortion or fallacies.
I'm not calling you dishonorable, I'm just saying you need to resist the urge to twist things. Dr. Ornish was a good try.. reasonable enough, sounded like solid advice on the surface.. No twisting there.. but proved false by other research.
