  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You asked for a rival. I gave you a rival. Now you're shifting the goalposts.

These rivals kept records. None of those records mention anything about the Exodus story. This is a fact; see for yourself.

Why would you trust any archaeological records at all? If you think the bible is wrong, why believe other old writings?

Because other historical writings don't contain things like a plague of frogs, talking animals, and a global flood.

The Muslims keep what records they have about the Exodus a secret. They do not make them public knowledge. Even Isis is going into the museums and destroying ancient evidence. So a lot of the evidence your looking for is under protective custody until after the Hebrew - Muslim war and their fight over the land.

Yes they do. Heck, atheists use the flood story all the time, they compare it to other flood stories in other cultures. They say that the flood story isn't unique to the bible, but now you say that it is?

Because unlike too many Christians, I don't think believing the Bible is an "all-or-nothing" scenario.

Besides, who said I believe them? I don't -- not 100%, anyway. As Reagan said: "trust, but verify."

Furthermore, I know that if the old writings were going to lie, they'd be far more likely to lie in order to put themselves in a more favorable light, as opposed to unfavorable. So even if I believed that the Egyptians somehow managed to expunge every single reference in their own history to the entire period of the Hebrews' captivity and subsequent escape, their rivals and enemies would have no reason to do so. If anything, they'd be more inclined to exaggerate the claims far beyond anything the Hebrews wrote.

They did not do this. They wrote about nothing. Their enemies were laid low by their own slaves in spectacular, empire-crumbling fashion, and nobody who had the most to gain from it so much as mentioned it.

That doesn't strike you as the least bit odd?

And what do those records say?

Atheists are always quick to cite a lack of evidence in the ancient historical records. THey are a bit hasty however, because they have been proven wrong before. How can you take a handful of records, and use them to decide what wasn't written thousands of years ago? How do you know those records dont exist? You seem to believe in bigfoot without any real fossil evidence. Yet you cant believe a bible story.

I don't believe in Bigfoot. Try again, without the broad brush.

HINT: Talk to me, instead of talking to the air about the big, bad, atheists (I'm agnostic, btw, so your comment fails on multiple levels).

No, just ISIS, and ISIS is despised for it by most of the Muslim world. It has nothing to do with suppressing evidence and more to do with their repressive religious doctrine about graven images.

So a lot of the evidence your looking for is under protective custody

Or, or, ooooor, hear me out here, you could put that evidence up on the internet, where it will never ever go away. Barbara Streissand couldn't make a simple photo of her house disappear, and you think we need to keep this "evidence" in protective custody lest it somehow vanish? Perform the necessary documentation on it, then put it on the web. It will be there forever.

Yes they do. Heck, atheists use the flood story all the time, they compare it to other flood stories in other cultures. They say that the flood story isn't unique to the bible, but now you say that it is?

Correction: the historical records we rely on to form a picture of how a society was built typically don't have things like that. We aren't looking to the Epic of Gilgamesh to learn the facts about how ancient Mesopotamia worked.

It was relevant to the discussion

Except that it wasn't. I'm not an Atheist, and I don't believe in Bigfoot. Your comment was doubly irrelevant.

I didnt call you an atheist. You took my intention wrong. Bigfoot is our supposed human and Ape ancestor. I like to call him bigfoot.

Then you're both irrelevant and wrong. "Bigfoot" is the colloquial name for "Sasquatch," a mythical creature which allegedly inhabits the Pacific Northwest woods.

You may like to call 2+2 "seven"; you'd be wrong.

For all we know. the rest of the universe is more sinful. I find the CS Lewis idea that aliens might not be depraved to be wishful thinking. We must subjugate their species, and colonize their homeworlds: human needs take priority.

If we don't make Palpatine look like a Red Cross volunteer, we're doing it wrong.
Dream on. Meanwhile, Jesus created all that is. The heavens will pass away.

...Yes, he hated someone who wouldn't be born for thousands of years. That totally makes sense. :D
Yes. He sure did hate the spirit of God. Not like Jesus started to exist when He came as a man.

In all fairness, God hated Pharoah first.
