Paul teaches us that the Church "built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone." Eph 2:20 Peter is the chief of the Apostles. You have created a false dichotomy.Would the reading be saying that Jesus Christ the Son of God, is Rock the Universal Church is built upon. Or is Peter the Apostle of Jesus Christ, the person we are to build the Universal Church upon?
Heb 3:1 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;
If that's true, why did Jesus name him Rock?
He certainly did. ROCK is a translation of Peter.
I don't need you to quote a zillion verses. I need you to answer to the illogic of the contradiction: if there was "nothing like a Rock about Peter," then why did Jesus name him Rock.Here is the profession (Christ, the Son of God, who is the stone of stumbling, rock of offense)
and the Apostle of "our profession"
No. His name before that was simply Simon. The author is writing with hindsight.Wasnt Simon Peter's name "Peter" before Jesus acknowledges him below as Peter?

Cute. I take it you are unable to answer to your self-contradiction. Thank you.
I gave you the verse where he actually named him! Sheesh!I'll buy that Luke 6:14 convinced me, but you dont use scripture much hard to convince me without it
