  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Scientists say that God has no place in science because God is not falsifiable. Well, isn't the same thing true about the idea of multiverses?
Exactly. I wish I had gone to college to be an astrophysicist because all they seem to do is speculate and fantasize about time and space. They have no proof of most of their ideas and theories, as far as I can tell.

Oh, I think they have lots of evidence to support a great many of their claims. Just not all. And it is quite hypocritical for them to then turn around and exlude talking about God when they entertain equally untestable ideas.

I would encourage you to watch 'The Elegant Universe' on Nova. It gives a pretty understandable explanation of the multiverse notion.

Basically, the multiverse is a potential outcome of a mathematical model for the Big Bang. Mathematicians were trying to model the Big Bang using a 10 dimensional model, but the math broke down before they could get to the instant of the Big Bang. They added and 11th dimension to that model and were able to overcome that problem. But, one of the outcomes of the 11 dimensional model was the possibility of the multiverse, essentially infinite numbers of universes, each with its own physical laws.

And one of the possibilities is that God did it. And both of these possibilities are not falsifiable.

BTW, I'll watch the Elegant Universe because I AM interested in theories, even if they aren't scientific. :)

Again, I contend that if that's true, there would be at least one multiverse that would contact us. Oh wait, maybe they have or will someday. maybe there's 15 dimensions, let's add one to make our theory better. Look around as the telescopes do, we are it !! There is no life out there.

Multiverse hypothesis: I think we muddy the waters when it's referred to as "multiverse theory." A theory is a well-established idea that has undergone extensive scrutiny and for which there is a lot of evidence. It is my understanding that proponents of the multiverse hypothesis don't think it fits these criteria. At present, it's untestable.

It may, however, be testable one day.

So, Open Heart, I have to ask: If some clever scientist, during your lifetime, comes up with experiments to test it and finds evidence to support it, does this mean you will leave Christianity? You seem to have pit God as Creator against the idea of many universes. The existence of this conflict is not obvious to me, but you seem to be persuaded.
