  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Did God create man or did man create God?"

Man created god enough said. The oldest most ancient religion Hinduism has a total of 330 million different gods.
And those gods are a god for everything you can think of i.e. god of cooking god of cleaning god of happiness etc.
The thing is we are human we have imagination we will make up this type of stuff. We have over the centuries have been
making up gods because have imagination. We can in this day and age make up a god and go with it. That being said we don't certainly know that the god we made up surely exists because we made up a god we don't evidence of said being. That being said no one has evidence of god(s) and no one can prove that a god exist or doesn't exist but i say god(s) are just made up because human imagination. Because really we were all children at one point afraid of the monster in the closet and most people keep that certain mindset when it comes to a god.

Have you ever wondered that just maybe there is a God beyond that mile you refer to?

Sure, there could be a God, I just don't see any logical reason to believe their is one.

We also have a pretty good description of Christian theology and how Christianity describes their God and when I overlay that with well evidenced reality, I can't reconcile it as existing.

We do not talk that much. He likes to drink and I do not drink. We were a lot closer back when I use to get together with him and drink alcohol. He goes to a monastery somewhere and meditates and they teach him stuff. So I suppose he feels Buddhism is more compatible with science or at least his objectives.

Really? I have never known Hindu's to be big drinkers.

Also, there is a difference between Hindus and Buddhism. Are you not sure which one your brother is?

Since your brother has completely different beliefs than yours, do you feel he is misguided?

Do you guys believe there are 330,000,000 different gods?

If not, do you mind if we don't either?

After all, aren't you atheists on record as telling us, "We believe in one less god than you do"?

I think he is more into Buddhism. I do not know that much about Buddhism, but of course Jesus is the only way that God has provided for us. That does not mean that a Buddhist can not be saved. Jesus can save anyone. The Bible says: whosoever is willing.

If man created God, then who created the Planets, the Stars, the Galaxies, and everything that we see? Man? That's absurd.

Did you somehow think that a complex "simple cell" which features thousands of interconnected working parts and a data storage/retrieval/replication system more complex than any computer existing in 2015 somehow came to be on its own from lifeless goo billions of years ago?

There's no way I'm buying that one.

God created Man, along with everything else He created. He created all of this for His pleasure, and in the end, He will have His glory and pleasure. The question is... will you enjoy it with Him in a realm that He created for Himself and His loyal people, or will you be one of the countless multitudes who spend eternity away from Him in perpetual darkness?

In other words, according to your theology, people can be saved who don't believe in Christianity?

Science isn't a la carte. Electron theory is science, and electron theory is how your computer works.

to think everything on the planet is just the result of an explosion and not the product of an organized intelligent design is more illogical than any religion out there and you have more blind faith than any of us . yea explosions always results in complex organisms and a variety of new creations that perfectly cooperate and compliment eachother see it all the time

You don't need a got to create planets stars galaxies etc given enough time nature and gravity etc would do the world.
I'll even explain most of it.

Stars - Stars form in cold regions of space called molecular bonds that is the area of space were it is cold enough and for matter to bond. The force of gravity pulling on said cloud is greater than the internal strength than the external keeping the star together forming causing the cloud to collapse and create a proto star.

Galaxies there is different kinds but ill only stick to one of them. At the center of the galaxy is a super massive black hole.
The gravity of the pull of the black hole gives the galaxy its disc shape. Any matter that was around the supper massive star being hydrogen and helium clouds got stuck into that orbit of that large sun.

You don't need a god to create anything in the universe the universe itself even with the most simplistic matter over time it will become something complex. Also the idea of god creating a whole universe which is pretty much on the verge of entropy/heat death it really redundant to only have 1 planet that we know of to have intelligent sentient beings on it being me you etc. and god creates a massive universe instead of just our solar system a few stars and that's it.

I'm not buying that one either. Instead, if it turns out that God designed the world to be able to bring forth life (which is the way I'm placing my own bets) then the complex "simple cell" which features thousands of interconnected working parts was itself the end product of a lot of evolution, that evolution beginning with a much simpler reproducer. Perhaps the origin of life was with a single molecule that could catalyze the production of one or more identical molecules.

Since you're a Christian, wouldn't it be easier to just say that God made Life as we know it and placed it on the Earth so that it would multiply "after their kind" as it says in the Bible?

Think about it. If you were going to create a lifeless world, and then you wanted there to be life on the world... and you happen to be a Being who can create all the stars, planets, etc, why would you start with a molecule or two and then let it stew for Who-Knows-How-Long that would take, instead of just removing that step and putting a wholly made lifeform on the planet directly?

Think about God's purpose for creating the Earth. He created the Earth to give Man a place to live. Why did He want to create Man? Because He wanted a race of sentient creatures with free will to love Him, worship Him, glorify Him, and keep Him company.

What does He have to gain by letting the Earth stew for millions of years waiting for life to evolve until finally Mankind rises from Apes? Absolutely nothing.

God does not do or allow anything that doesn't glorify Him or fulfill His purposes in the end run. These intermediate steps that everybody goes on about makes no sense whatsoever. Do you think God wasn't capable of creating all the life on Earth within 6 days? You believe in a God who has the power to raise a man from the dead (or at least I would hope you do, since you claim to be Christian)... are you saying you do not think God has the power to create a fully-formed lifeform?

I can understand atheists and non-Christians having trouble with the Bible's creation account... but when I see Christians struggling with it... my heart sinks... because they are basically saying that they don't think God is strong enough to do it that way. God is... God. If He can plant an embryo into a virgin woman that grows into the mortal body that the Word would come down and occupy and then be crucified and then be resurrected on the 3rd day... are you telling me He couldn't make a whole tree and stick it in the ground with the blink of an eye?

<ggggg> so nice of you to seek to make things easier for God in your theology. As for me, I find it appropriate to trust the evidence God left us in the stars, the rocks, and the genomes.

Besides, theologically, hmans MUST have arisen naturally from the earth. It is only when the natural humans, of the earth, rightfully exercising their representation of the earth itself, speak to reject Satan as lord of this earth, that he may legally be cast into hell. This will happen at the resurrection and the great white throne judgement.

If we weren't evolved from this life of this planet naturally, we wouldn't have the standing to do that.

Uh...........wut?

Last I read, the Bible says Satan gets cast into Hell after he leads the Gog & Magog rebellion at the end of the Millennial Reign. That has nothing to do with people asking Him to throw Satan in Hell.

You appear to be confusing that with the Second Coming of Christ when Israel cries out to Jesus to come and save them when they are pushed back against the wall at the end of the 70th week of Daniel (the latter half of which is called the "Great Tribulation").

That's not evidence of your God that's evidence that the Great African JuJu up the mountain did it, unless you have further evidence I'm going with the Great African JuJu, the Great African JuJu was here long before your God was thought of, when he roared and threw lightening across the sky everyone was afraid and hid themselves until he had calmed down.
