  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is colors evidence for Design?

It is a fact that science has failed to explain why colors exists or taste or smell for that sake (sometimes referred to as qualia). Cold this be taken as evidence for ID (yes or no) and what would motivate your answer?
Colors exist when the wavelengths of electromagnetic radiation reach a certain range (430-770 Thz).

When this radiation falls on receptors (the eyes), they travel to the brain via the optic nerve, where a "circuit is completed" and the observer experiences an empirical sensation -- he "sees colors."

The same for taste, where certain chemical reactions take place on the "taste buds" and the observer experiences "taste."

And while I don't believe in Intelligent Design,* per se, I do believe this was designed intelligently.

* The title to this thread leaves out the word "intelligent," yet the body of the OP includes it; making it difficult for a non-believer in Intelligent Design to answer the title without having to explain this.

Thanks for pointing this out. I changed my question in body of the OP from 'ID' to 'design'.

Is it your opinion that qualia does not exist?
For the sake of arguing, I'll say qualia exists.

But where the Bible disagrees with qualia, qualia is wrong.

I am not going to argue for or against any viewpoint. I am just trying to understand how I should inferre evidence of design to the functional description you gave. It is not clear to me how you relate a functional description of our sensor organs as a motivation for why you think it is evidence for design.

But where the Bible disagrees with qualia, qualia is wrong.

Does the bible disagree with it or is this just a disclaimer?
