John...is this what you have been talking about?

Mat 22:37
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

Matt 22:38

This is the first and great commandment.

copyChkboxOff.gif
Mat 22:39

And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

copyChkboxOff.gif
Mat 22:40

On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

That is right and to love God one has to keep his Commandments.

(John 14:21) “Anybody who receives my commandments and keeps them will be one who loves me; and anybody who loves me will be loved by My Father, and I shall love him and show myself to him.”

(John 14: 23) “Anyone who loves me will keep my word and my Father will love him, and we shall come to him and make a home in him.”

To be able to love one’s neighbor, he or she needs the gift of love from God who they have to first love to receive that gift.

Living God’s Commandment is loving one’s neighbor.

Well what you say has no scripture confirmation. Except if one is talking about a born again Christian. You could be right.

(1 John 3:9-10) “No one who has been begotten by God sins; because God’s seed remains inside him, he cannot sin when he has been begotten by God. In this way we distinguish the children of God from the children of the devil: anybody not living a holy life and not loving his brother is no child of God’s”

A born again person is begotten by God, and is a Child of God’s.

Notice that a Child of God does not sin, and not sinning means one is keeping God’s Commandments.

Jesus says he loves those who keep his Commandments.

The doctrine presented seems to add up to works based righteousness/salvation . what Paul said about that is, if we can save ourselves by following the law then Christ died for nothing. And that's basically what I think about the teaching presented, works based righteousness that empties the cross of its power.

Your post has nothing to do with this thread, and I believe it is being used to derail it.

Your misunderstanding of Paul’s writings will not be addressed on this thread.

In General Theology one of the agreed upon points is that scripture does not contradict scripture. However, it has been proposed that God does not love us. If it shall be established which pages to tear out of the bible .. kindly make it clear for the readers of this thread.

Tell me do you believe that Jesus said that to love him one had to keep his commandments? And for Jesus to love us we had to keep his Commandments?

Because that is what this thread is all about.

It is Scripture that says Jesus loves those who keep his Commandments.

So your theology of no works has no place on this thread.

It is God’s Work is a Child of God that gives his child the grace to keep God’s Commandments.

Paul understood that, but many of his readers have been totally misled, and Peter warned us about.

Yes and how do you trust him?

Do you keep his Commandments?

(Matthew 5:48) “Even the pagans do as much, do they not? You must therefore be perfect just as your heavenly Father is perfect.”

(Matthew 5:39) “You have learnt how it was said: ‘Eye for eye and tooth for tooth.’ But I say this to you: offer the wicked man no resistance.”

(Matthew 5:43-44) “You have learnt how it was said, you must love your neighbor and hate your enemy, but I say this to you: love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.”

(Matthew 6:19) “Do not store up treasures for yourselves on earth, where moths and woodworms destroy them and thieves can break in and steal.”

(Luke 14:33) “So in the same way, none of you can be my disciple unless he gives up all his possessions

(Matthew 23:8-9) “You, however must not allow yourselves to be called Rabbi, since you have only one Master, and you are all brothers. You must call no one on earth your father, since you have only one Father, and he is in heaven.”

(Luke 12:33) “Sell your possessions and give alms. Get yourselves purses that do not wear out, treasure that will not fail you, in Heaven where no thief can reach it and no moth destroy it. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”

(Matthew 5:29-30) “If your right eye should be your downfall, tear it out and throw it away; for it will do you less harm to lose one part of yourself than to have your whole body thrown into hell. And if your right hand should be your downfall, cut it off and throw it away; for it will do you less harm to lose one part of yourself than to have your whole body go to hell.”

Before I answer your question .. i'd need some proof that you are practicing what you are preaching.

That to me is just a cop out. You can’t answer, and know there is no way one can prove he or she is living God’s Word to anyone but God.

Jesus is my Lord and God, and only him do I follow. He knows that I am sharing his Word, because he is the one telling me what to share.

Hmmm .. so if there's no way to prove it .. then why do you ask me?

Jesus is my Lord and God, and only him do I follow. He knows that I am sharing his Word, because he is the one telling me what to share.

Jesus is telling you to share this message, this cannot be proved or not proved, but Jesus did say by their fruit you will know them. And I do remember Jesus said to love those who hate you so you can be like the Father in Heaven .. so . I'm not seeing this element in your teachings .. so by virtue of fruit, I would disagree Jesus is telling you to say what you've been saying.

So your theology of no works has no place on this thread.
I find that an interesting statement given that this thread has
been mostly about keeping commandments. How that is
not works-related I'll never know.

Start a thread on the theology of faith, not works. I will explain then.

Jesus said we had to keep his Commandments to have his love.

Nah, this thread is the perfect place to discuss it, given that you
keep chanting the following mantra:
Jesus said we had to keep his Commandments to have his love.
In fact, discussing it here would keep it in better
context, overall. :)

This thread is about keeping God’s Commandments, which is what proves that God loves him or her.

The following scripture confirms that is true.

(John 14: 23) “Anyone who loves me will keep my word and my Father will love him, and we shall come to him and make a home in him.”

(John 14:21) “Anybody who receives my commandments and keeps them will be one who loves me; and anybody who loves me will be loved by My Father, and I shall love him and show myself to him.”

This thread is about keeping God’s Commandments
Which is a works-related issue. There's no getting around it.

(1 John 4:10) "Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that
He loved us
, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our
sins."

(Ephesians 2:8-9) "For it is by grace you have been saved,
through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of
God— not by works, so that no one can boast."

(1 John 4:19) "We love because He first loved us."

(Romans 5:8) "But God demonstrates His own love for us in
this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

(Matthew 5:46-48) "If you love only those who love you, what
reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that?

And if you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing
than the others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect
therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect."
