  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Please post the scripture that supports your point here.

Every human being's name is written in the book of life "from the foundation of the world", and remains there until he or she rejects Christ and the Gospel, or goes after another Jesus and another Gospel, or continues in their sins and idolatries even after hearing of Christ. When a person fails to repent after many opportunities to do so, that person's name is REMOVED or "blotted out" from the Lamb's Book of Life.

Not chosen, but Foreknown.

Chosen. He picks someone and writes their name in the Book.

God knows who will become saved, and who will not, before they even do it. Therefore, He's able to write a book of names because He knows (knew?) before the Earth was even made.

They became saved when He wrote their names in the Book. For instance, they were born and died one day later. They were saved because they were chosen and their names already written. It wasn't about Him knowing they would choose Him in the future, they didn't have the opportunity to choose Him.

God is Omnipresent. This means He Is, He Always Was, and He Shall Ever Be. God Today is God Yesterday is God Tomorrow. Time means nothing to Him. He knew you before you were born, and He knows if you will be saved before you die.

He, however, did not specifically choose or pre-determine your fate. He gave all of us free will to choose as we please. He merely knows the choices we will make, before we make them.

He didn't pre-determine our fate in the sense that we had to be saved, it's still ours to lose, but He did have those He choose for the opportunity to remain in the Book of Life.

It's pretty plain that if one does not overcome, one's name will be blotted out of the Book.

Rev 3:5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

Secondly, if our name is written before the foundation of the world, this means that for whatever reason, we're chosen apart from our knowledge.
But you don't overcome unless you come to Christ! That's the point. Jesus said in John 16:33:
33 These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.”

Their name written in the Book of Life means nothing then.

Please post the scripture that supports your point here.
To understand a Bible truth, it is usually good to go to the first mention of the subject (called the Law of First Mention). So the first time we read about the blotting out of names is in Exodus 32:30-33: And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses said unto the people, Ye have sinned a great sin: and now I will go up unto the LORD; peradventure I shall make an atonement for your sin. And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made them gods of gold. Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin--; and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written. And the LORD said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.

That last phrase implies that every name is written in the Book of Life, but when a certain condition is not met, it is expunged or "blotted out". Since all men are sinners, and since God will have all men to be saved, it follows that every man's name is written in the Book of Life. Therefore names are blotted out as men "sin against God", and today that means not believing on the Son of God and receiving Him as Lord and Saviour. This is confirmed by John 3:36: He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

So, God knows who isn’t, but is unsure who is, so he writes their names in a book anyway (just in case), so much for God declaring the end from the beginning (which makes him a liar as well). It appears that God is just as fallible as his creation is. This would make another rebellion in heaven inevitable.

I appreciate you going to that effort.
However, and I may be mistaken, it does not appear that that actually supports your prior contention. And that being what I asked you to provide scriptural proof of. That all peoples names are written in the Book of Life before the foundation of the world.

I disagree that the phrase implies that every name is written in the Book of Life, but let's assume that's true. The vast billions who had their name written in the Book of Life but haven't heard the mention of Jesus will all have their name blotted out? Why put it there in the first place when it was totally impossible for them to hear of Jesus?

Blotting one's name out of the book of life has to be understood in light of the fact that the scripture NEVER mentions anyone whose name was botted out!!!

In light of that fact this speaks to our humanity as I see it. How ,any time have we as believers *felt* like we lost our salvation?

Doesn't matter. The potential is there, per scripture.

It speaks about one's soul's destination. Feeling has nothing to do with it.

Only if you don't consider HOW scripture is speaking. Jesus also says "he who comes to me, I WILL IN NO WAYS cast out.

It speaks about one's soul's destination. Feeling has nothing to do with it.
That's correct...but scripture doesn't discount how one feels. How did Job feel...and how did God restore him in the end?

The passage already told you...they were written BEFORE the foundation of the world. You either believe that or not.

Yes, they were. Was everyone's name written though? Any of those billions who would never ever hear of Jesus Christ?

Name means Nature/Character/Authority....So I would only see One Name in that book, and it has always been there, it is The Nature of Christ Himself, after all, it's only His image and His Likeness that has Life.

The book (or name) cannot be separated from the life that he is which itself is endless in it's portion as is ours; as it says, Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.

There is only one book, and then there are the books, one of life (or who has life in himself), ones that are full of labor; it is relative to every son and the process Paul said he was called to from his mothers womb which extends itself back to the first Adam.

Words that are spirit and life become finite when we use that which is outside of us through our own Babylon to determine what they are.

This is the book/scroll that is opening in us, the revelation of the son (the victory that swallows death) ... just as much as it is the holy of holies, or the throne out of which proceeds the river of life (or the spirit of truth, which the father is), or as Jesus put it in one place, a well of water springing up into everlasting life (which is to know this Father).

We all have a name that is finite as we all have a name that is infinite, as there is one book of life and many books of works. These like the kingdom are inner truths, and no more literal then a lamb with seven eyes and seven horns.

David said ... Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, and not be written with the righteous.

But John said ... Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

Stay in the word...you *may* get your answer. Like Ephesians 1:3-6.
