  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

...it is number 7, adultery is punishable by death.

I'm not asking you about Old Testament punishments, Frog.
You are dodging the question, and I think you know that.
We all know what the old punishment was, and we all know that the New Covenant does not involve those punishments.

What I asked you was:
Is stealing a sin?

Can you answer "yes" or "no", please?

Maybe you didn't understand.
The New Covenant is not like the Old Covenant.
Yes, there are still laws in the New Covenant, and they are the same old laws that we must still obey.
However, there are a couple of new things in this Covenant that were not included in the Old one.
For one thing, these laws will be written in our very hearts...they will be a part of us.
And our Shepherd will walk right along with us, to help keep us on the right path.
But the most important thing about this New Covenant is grace. Grace doesn't mean we don't still have a law over us. What it does mean is that we can look to God for mercy. He will forgive our iniquities, and put our sin away from us...and He iwill remember it no more.

It's not that difficult, really.
We may not
1.Have other gods.
2. Make and worship idols.
3. Take God's Name in vain.
4. Break the Sabbath
5. Disrespect our parents
6. Kill
7. Commit adultery
8. Steal
9. Lie
10. Covet.

All of those things are still off limits for us, and we know this...well, some of us have some doubts about number 4, but no worries...we can put those doubts to bed.

But if you say that it is a sin, then you admit that you are under the law.
Yes it is a sin to steal. Does that mean we are submitting to the commandments? No. Why? The Ten Commandments did not create sin. Sin was before the law and the law came because of transgression (sin) which could not have been against the law that did not exist. Besides the law was only in place till the promise came. So not stealing is no confession of obligation to the law.

You cannot say that it is not a sin to steal, because, of course, it is.
then if one is under law one s put to death, as you dodged that point I showed you the put to death verses, what say ye?

Further, I say that even you keep nine of the ten laws, Frogster...yes, and expect other Christians to do the same.
I say the entire world honors the Lord's commands, even though they don't realize it...yes, and even the fourth command, as Saturday is the traditional day off...the day of the big game, the day of the family picnic...the day when all sorts of special things are planned.

I say God is sovereign...and always has been.

I say that the law written on our hearts as per Jeremiah's prophecy of the New Covenant is the ten commandments, basically because these laws cannot be "abolished".

What sayest thou?
really then are food laws on our hearts? too? Where odes it say just SOME laws are written, where?

is is sin to eat pork, crab, lobster, shrimp, catfish?

how can a mortal just pick what laws are written?

your theology is flawed.

Why?
I don't eat pork, crab, lobster, shrimp, or catfish...I don't like shellfish, and I'm not too fond of pork, either. Have you ever seen what those things eat? Major ick.
But that's beside the point.
We both know that those laws were given to the Jews...although in reality, except for the food laws, I'll bet you keep the most fundamental of those laws without even realizing it. You bathe regularly, don't you? You keep your clothes and your house clean? I'll bet you even bury your waste...you do flush the toilet, and wash your hands after you eliminate, yes? These are fundamental laws, aren't they?

But we are straying from the point.
Those ten commandments cannot be abolished. As I pointed out, and you have failed to deny, you keep all but the fourth one, yourself, and you expect other Christians to keep them, too. Of course, you do...the last six of them are so basic that they are a part of all human law. And no Christian would ever dare to say that he doesn't keep the first three.

Once you realize that all the rigamarole attached to the Sabbath doesn't apply any more, it's just a day off, fapeetsakes...you might feel better about it.

I told you a long time ago...I'm not an SDA...I find them just a bit annoying, actually. Nor am I any other brand of "Sabbatarian". Just a gal who appreciates the gift of a day of rest...
