  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If you don't mind, I'll just address this one point in that I think it gets to the heart of the issue.

But I think YECs are strong in their faith in the sense that they fervently believe it to be the exclusive truth.

First, Loudmouth made a good point. It's not YECs in general, I should not have put it that way. It's creation scientists, or in other word, people who try to justify their creationist views with science, math, and/or logic.

That said, faith IMO, is not dependent upon truth. It stands alone. You don't need to prove it. To the point that trying to prove it is a sign of weakness. Thus, the the more fervently one tries to prove one's beliefs or establish the exclusivity of their truth, the greater the chance they faith is not up to the task of standing alone.

I hope that makes sense.

This is only one anecdatum, but this kid made it through at least the high school course.

"At the end of the unit on evolution, S.K. gave an exam. As she started grading the tests, she noticed that the student unhappy with evolution did really well. He knew the material and was able to display his knowledge effectively. But when she turned to the last page, she saw the words: “Confess your sins, repent, and you will be saved!”"

Right. That's what I said.
No.

Evidence doesn't dictate what I "know ain't true."

If evidence says there was no global Flood, and I believe by faith there was, your definition is wrong.

Right. You believe global flood, in spite of the evidence. Ergo, you're choosing to believe in something without evidence, (ie, you know ain't true).
It's ok though, you don't need to explain this to me, I understand.

What isn't Laos?
This country isn't Laos is it?

You realize Laos is the #1 country where, in your words, '[faith] isn't the best way to lead your life.'
