What do you think will happen?

I will go out on a limb, without seeing the evidence they have to charge these officers.

Here is my prediction:

Some of the more serious charges will be dropped before trial and or some of the officers will be acquitted of certain charges, but found guilty of lessor charges.

When all said and done, the more serious charges will stick for some of the officers and they will be found guilty of these serious charges.

Just my take, I could be wrong, since we haven't seen the specifics of the evidence.

I wonder if his neck was broken when he was arrested because he couldn't use his legs when they carried him to the van. Even the civilian who videoed it mentions that "he can't use his legs".

The news here reported that the officers have been charged with various crimes including second degree murder. And it was noted that he should not have been arrested because he hadn't done anything to warrant an arrest.

Follow the thread back. You jumped in on my comment to someone else. THAT'S when I asked you that question.

You will note: I made no mention of the race of the victim/perps.

Great. I wasn't even talking to you, so why would I note that particularly?

Which, IMHO, would seem to lend some credence to the idea that he was profiled. Whether based on his race or not, I don't know, but why were the cops hassling him?

Perhaps because he has a long rap sheet?

I'm guessing he's not unknown to the BPD.

Well running means you are guilty and dangerous, didn't you get the memo?

I am no longer interested in trying to guess what will happen. After so many wrong predictions I am happy to discuss issues as the facts are presented. Obviously the autopsy revealed enough evidence to indict, so I will take it as it comes....

Long time before trial and a lot could happen with motions etc.. Will these officers be tried together, or will they be granted separate trials?

It also could be, some of these serious charges, are an attempt to get one or more officer to "flip" and give up the goods on the others.

Initially, that was my suspicion, too. But the coroner's report apparently has ruled out the initial arrest as the source of the injuries and has determined that he hit his head inside the truck and that injuries on his head match a bolt inside the vehicle.

Call me crazy, but I don't think "having a long rap sheet" is justification for breaking the guy's spine.

Nor did I even come close to implying any such thing.

YOU asked why he may have been profiled, not why his spine was broken.

His past is irrelevant.

They still need probable cause to arrest him on that day and a past criminal record is not probable cause.

Having a long rap sheet doesn't make profiling OK either. Probable Cause and all that.

Generally speaking, yes, that's what it means, at least the guilty part. Dangerous, that remains to be seen.

I will be interested to see the evidence in this case. I do think this guy was done wrong by the cops, absolutely. I don't think they intended to kill this guy, though. But that's pure speculation.

we'll have to disagree on that. In many cases, the long rap sheet is probable cause.

I don't think that would hold up in court. But either way, let's wait to hear more about his criminal past. I'm sure the police are currently combing every file looking for any dirt they can smear the guy with, based on their rap sheet.

I agree with this, however somebody is guilty for not ensuring his safety. I do believe somebody intended to hurt him, but not kill him.

That is no consolation.

We know he died while in their custody.

Please spin that....
Just because he died in custody does NOT mean that the officers or anyone for that matter played a role. I am not saying they DID, BUT just because I die while in someone's custody whether I am an inmate, in a nursing home, rehab center wherever else does NOT mean that a caregiver was a fault.

By like suggesting that if a child died ub a parent's custody that there was abuse or otherwise that the parent killed the child on purpose.
