In my opinion ... yes.

Since evolution only works on paper, I'm sure scientists can even make cyanobacteria eventually lead to mankind if they tried hard enough.

It's a game of connect-the-dots, in my opinion, and I believe science has the ability to even turn a child in the womb into tissue, fit for hospital fuel.

If dog fossils were the only potential intermediaries that could be said to lead to a cat body-plan, then evolutionists would indeed argue that cats had evolved from dogs. Evolution theory can accommodate nearly any story like this.

Just as evolutionists could not describe any 'magical barrier' preventing a dog today from eventually evolving into a cat body-plan given the appropriate convergent selection pressures.

After all, they believe fish became cats.
