  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Schools that teach creationism in the science class.

That as you know was separate from their crazy beliefs,

So you're admitting that religious people can balance their beliefs with science and know when to prioritize one over the other?

Armoured,

Would you please post that poem that was written about this canard?

The one that starts out:

"They fly through the air with the greatest of ease."

You can google it as easily as i can. I particularly liked where they rhymed "ease" with "of AV's"

All I get is that trapeze song.

I thought you had it as your signature at one time?

[BIBLE][/BIBLE]oh, a long time ago. Try it with "fstdt" as a search term

Got it ... thanks!
Oh, they float through they air with the greatest of ease,
Those magical clams of AV's fantasies.
Their movements are graceful, they waft on the breeze,
No longer to mire in the muck.

They flock all around us sans feather nor beak,
Flapping their shells as they dive and they streak.
They inherit the heavens, no longer so meek,
'Neath the oceans where they once were stuck...........

That's where the denial part comes in, there was reality and know how then after some denial kicked in came their religion.

Every religious person on this planet has the ability to separate their religion from the reality that is their life.

That ability is what makes atheists sit up, just how is someone able to do that, atheist can not knowingly do that,
when religious people stop being religious they must lose the ability to do it then forget how they were able to do it..
do you know how you do it?

But not Mohammed.

...

No, not the Mohammed who did that Islam/Muslim thing. He is not a bible character. He is not mentioned in the bible at all. So given the context Mohammed is irrelevant. The discussion is about folk in the bible who were taken to heaven.

But three cheers for trying to introduce a little irrelevancy into the discussion ;)

That makes your chemistry instructor a fool; chemistry is one of the science fields in which, last time I checked, theists are in a majority.

Also, not appropriate to bring up. I once had a substitute teacher who decided to tell all the girls in the class to "marry well and not work after having kids". I chewed her out for the sexist implications, more specifically, I said (and this is true) "my mother worked full time, went to college part time, and took care of two kids, all by herself. Maybe you don't feel capable enough to manage all of that, but do not assume that all people need to live by the same 1950s ideology that you have". She couldn't even respond to that.

I have stood up to people like that before, and most of the time, never get any kind of punishment for it (even in instances where I probably should have).

Bravo. If you were 90 instead of 20 then the sexist comments from the substitute teacher to your class when you were 14 wouldn't seem so jarringly antiquated to me.

If you'd gone to my school you probably would have been one girls who got paired with scientists to collaborate on research to be published in our journal since you seem to excel in science. :) Many of the scientists and physicians who mentor us are women and mothers.

I doubt that, my social disorder is much more apparent in person than it is online, where I can edit what I post and rethink it as I type. I am an unpleasant person to work with in a group, especially if there are consequences to any mistakes people make. I crack easily under pressure; I even have panic attacks.

What you describe only happens in religion.
A guess in science is only as good as the evidence backing that guess up, pink unicorn have no place in science because there is no evidence backing them up.
Neither does a first lifeform.
