  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I used to feel so low when i was going thru the refining fire and wondering was a predestined to go to hell. Now I find great comfort even tho i still have trials, that I'm predestined to go to heaven.....That yes we have free will and if so why are there some who are predestined.......I think it matters on the part that God created heaven before Earth.....He made mansions of splendor and a great Kingdom before we where born. Now that we have come into the light and know who the source of Salvation is. We can delight that can has seen it till our days here are up that we will be taken care of and that we will go straight to heaven

There is freedom in Christ. We don't have to worry about what we did, what we will do, or whether we did enough. When he said "It is finished", he meant that it is finished for all time.

@Bryan So when Jesus said it was finished it means that God knew beforehand those He would draw to the cross? I mean I find great comfort in knowing God knew I would jump on the wagon and become His kid.

You can find great comfort in knowing that because you seek him, then you must been given the faith to do so by him and are therefore one of his.

But, "it is finished" states that he is reporting that his work is done and that work is to save man from their well-deserved punishment. In the Greek, it is said in a form that says that it is something that was done, but will continue into the future (into our time). It means that the task was completed, the standard was met, and the debt is paid.

Please explain how that works?

People in history that God knew would he would need to further His kingdom were predestined. Now, only the ones that either will make a big impact for the good or the bad are probably predestined. He knows our every move, for the most part. The rest is up to us.

Well, I've never heard that one before. :)

How big is a "big" impact? Obviously, people like Wesley and Calvin would be predestined. What about the lady who volunteers in a soup kitchen for the homeless? Is she big enough or is she replaceable in the Kingdom?

Makes sense.....I mean their are greater and lesser but we will all eat with God...........Because I am His kid.....I learned that when the disciplining is done, I see how God did what was He had to do to keep His little kid from making a great mistake.

In May of 08 I decided that I was going to turn my back on God, in my heart I said I am finished with this and I'm going back to doing drugs and what not. Not even five minutes of making that decision I was hit with a massive wave of anxiety, I forgot all about me and focused on what the problem was........God disciplines those He love and He disciplines every son who He receives so I was shown that God the Father does love me.....That He will keep me from doing what I wanted to do. So in a sense it is no longer I who live but God within me. So my free will even tho is still there I get shakened by the thought of abandoning God.

We should not confuse the eternal security of the believer with predestination. Those who believe are predestined to be ultimately "conformed to the image of His Son" (Rom 8:29,30). And it is true that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.

But no one is excluded from God's grace, and the invitation to receive the gift of eternal life is open all (Rev 22:17). In other words, if every sinner would repent and believe the Gospel, all would be predestined to be changed into the likeness of Christ.

Truth, I mean before I was saved All I wanted to do is live forever in my sin....Which was lust....Now I can care less about those things and focus on what God desires me to have.....

So which men were saved at the cross? Was it all men or mankind which the bible clearly states or was it a subset of mankind which Calvinism states. Christ is referred to as the 2nd Adam which means that his Salvation was for the entire human race seeing that the Adam's sin effected the entire human race. Do you believe that Jesus died for all men or just the elect?

I feel like God knows who will even listen to Him in the first place so he predestines us to draw us to Him,then He gives us a free choice to submit to Him or not.

I also believe on top of all that, that, even though He gives us a choice, He already knows whose gonna accept Him or not.

God Bless!

He died for all men. The work on the cross was efficient for some and sufficient for all.

So, are all men saved?

I don't know of any scriptural basis for the first part of your post. Would you elaborate further, citing scripture?

Implying that God knows our every move for the most part implies that there are things God is incapable of knowing. Please explain this also.

So, are all men saved?

Yes, according to Romans 5 and a host of other scriptures they are. We still have to believe in Christ to receive our inheritance but the inheritance is for all men. And Yes, belief is a requirement.

For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ. Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. Romans 5:17,18

Is is a failure on God's part that not everyone has heard of Jesus and is therefore unable to believe in him?

Alternately, if those people are permitted to just believe in a vague sense of god to satisfy God's requirements for belief, then why are we saddled with the resonsibility to know and believe in a specific Jesus?

If Jesus died for all men, then shouldn't the requirements be the same for all?

Or are we back to the Calvinist notion of "efficient for some and sufficient for all"?

You really don't understand the spiritual call of the gospel. The bible said that Abraham heard the gospel in his day. The people before the cross looked forward to a Messiah to come and we look backwards to a Messiah who has already come and accomplished his mission. Do you think someone can be lost because they never heard the name of Christ? Paul said the Gentiles who never knew the law but follow the law written in their heart show that all men have a conscience where God speaks to them. Why is that so hard to understand? We are not lead to Christ by the gospel minister but by the Holy Spirit who moves the gospel minister! If there is no gospel minister then the Holy Spirit does it himself.
