I don't want to sound like a legalist but I believe IMHO that Family Guy is one of the worst shows on TV for these reasons:

1.It promotes fornication big time(of course other shows do so this isn't a surprise but they promote this as a family cartoon I believe).
2.It promotes pedophile content. Honestly do you want your children or any child for that matter watch a show that promotes this?
3.It promotes gay's in Church.
4.It mocks Christianity in certain episodes.

And probably countless other points but those points I made summarizes that a show like that is just not wholesome and it's a cartoon on a time that kids can watch it which makes it worse.

Please again I'm not a legalist but this is just how I feel about this show and other shows that promote stuff like this. And I'm also speaking as a concerned Christian.

Personally, I can't stand Family Guy. I can at least watch American Dad! but I generally despise Seth MacFarlane's brand of humor.

I watch other shows that aren't wholesome so I really can't comment on that.
But the jokes in Family Guy really try to be clever but they just.... drag on. It's like they don't know when to stop. I can't really explain it; the show just comes across as being extremely smug to me and it's really annoying ^_^

1. Don't let the name fool you, Family Guy is one of those cartoons meant for adults, like the Simpsons is. There tends to be a low standard among "adult" cartoons, though--namely, a bunch of dumb, gross, or sexual jokes. Family guy has a HUGE hatedom, and it's not just Christians, either. In fact, I'd say Family Guy is one of the most hated cartoons currently airing. Of course, most unaware parents will think that animation=for kids. Not true at all, and I'd go so far as to say most "kids' shows" have their own issues.

2. Ok, I confess that at an...immature age I found Family Guy funny. And yes, Herbert too. But again, this show isn't actually for kids. The idea is that if you're an 18-35 year old single guy, you'll find this show funny. If you get all the references and don't think the show goes too far in being offensive. So, yeah, Family Guy's fandom is pretty small.

3. YOU HOMOPHOBE! Lol, just kidding ;) And if there's one thing ol' Seth Mcfarlane is a hypocrite about, it's homosexuality. He perpetuates offensive stereotypes about gay people while at the same time putting himself up as a supporter of their "rights". I don't know if any episode where he ties homosexuality and Christianity together, though.

4. As a good liberal, Seth Mcfarlane (the show's creator and mastermind) HATES Christians. Just watch the episode "Not All Dogs go to Heaven". Or don't, rather. Even atheists think it's terrible because it makes their side look like jerks.

That doesn't sound like legalism at all. In fact, it sounds very wise.

Legalism means requiring works of the law for salvation. What you're describing is discernment.

In our house, we've set certain standards for entertainment and media and we've taught our children to evaluate the music they listen to, the shows they watch, movies they see, etc, by these four simple questions:

1. Does it pass the Phillipians 4 test?

Is it true? Is it honorable? Is it just? Is it pure? Is it lovely? Is it commendable? Is there any excellence? Is there anything worthy of praise?

2. Does it pass the Galatians 5 test?

Does it exhibit, glorify, or incite the works of the flesh, which are sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, either in thought or in deed?

Or does it exhibit, glorify, or encourage the fruit of the Spirit, which is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control?

3. Does it pass the 1 Corinthians 8 test?

Even if it's something God grants us the liberty to enjoy or engage in, would our doing it cause a weaker brother or sister in Christ to sin or to stumble in their walk with Christ?

4. Is it an idol to you?

If it's something that failed the three tests above, would you give it up? If so, then what would your attitude be about giving it up? Would you be glad to give it up, knowing it doesn't glorify God, isn't conducive to growth in Christ, and could cause a weaker brother or sister in Christ to sin or stumble in their walk with Christ?

Or would you give it up grudgingly or not give it up at all? If so, then it's an idol.

I remember one time after having a medical procedure done, I came home and got in bed. I fell asleep with the TV on. I was awaken by some of the crudest things being said. I didn't know what was on my TV. Turned out it was Family Guy. I hurried up and found the remote!

I'm a person who likes some of the politically incorrect shows and I'm no prude but I just can't with this show...

It took you this long to stop?

I have never watched it...

In the words of Jerry Falwell: "You don't have to take the cap off of a sewer to know that it stinks" :)

Actually I haven't watched an episode in a while but I just wanted to point out why I stopped.

I stopped watching Family Guy after I gave my life to Christ. Because I found it really offensive. Just like I have culled most of my music because it was offensive. I let the Holy Spirit guide me and it did. I don't mind American Dad occasionally and I love Futurama but I HATE Family Guy

Family Guy is out, but American Dad, which is far worse, is OK?

I'm not criticizing you, I'm just trying to understand the logic behind that.

Seriously?!

Note: I've only ever seen about half a minute of it or American Dad, both of which I consider to be truly vile, but I'd never realise it sank to those depths.

I have never seen this, and I've seen almost every episode. I'm pretty sure if they ever did it was meant in a joking or tongue-in-cheek sort of thing.

3.It promotes gay's in Church.
I've never seen this either...but I'll avoid the whole homosexual debate because thats a different topic.

4.It mocks Christianity in certain episodes.

FG mocks all religions..not just Christianity. They make fun of everyone. That's their style. I find it funny and clever how they do it sometimes. I mean I know this is probably a weird thing to say but sometimes you gotta learn to laugh at your own religion..I mean come on..a talking snake convinced a woman to eat from a tree in Genesis..lol that sounds kinda funny but thats just me.

I love FG and it makes me laugh a lot..I don't think its wrong for CHristians to watch it but I get how its not for everyone..I think its legalistic to tell Christians what they cant watch. I really doubt God is up there saying "Well little Billy Smith sure is a great Christian but he watched an episode of FG so he goes to the fires of Hell for all eternity! BAHAHAHA!"

this post probably wont convince you to be a FG fan im just sharing my viewpoint lol...God bless...

Just watch Not All Dogs Go to Heaven. If you've seen that then I have no idea why you would have the offending character of that episode as your avatar. And while Christianity was not explicitly mentioned, I'm pretty sure it was Christianity being despised in that episode. I don't mean mocked or satirized, I legitimately mean outright despised.

Don't get me wrong, Family Guy certainly CAN be funny, it's capable of such. But ol' Seth, it's rumored, stopped caring around the time American Dad came about and geared later seasons to be as outrageous and offensive as possible, or just plain stupid and boring.

Yes. There is a character that's toddler who is constantly talking about having sex and, in at least one episode, it's strongly implied that he has a very prolific homosexual sex life.

The also mock Jesus. As if all the sexual content weren't bad enough, that's enough to put it way out of bounds in our household.

It's pretty nasty.

And the craziest part is said character USED to have a completely different personality, but it was deliberately changed at some point...pretty much to make "gay jokes". Ever notice how Christians don't make "gay jokes"?

I'm pretty sure that just because FG jokes about something doesnt mean they condone it...like I'm pretty sure they arent saying "Pedophilia is awesome and we support it!" every time they make a joke about it. They poke fun at everything, just like South Park does. I think some of you need a sense of humor...

I agree. I may not like Family Guy but I really don't find it offensive, just as I don't find South Park offensive. They're shows that base their humor in satire.
