1 Cor. 6:19
Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.

God was really specific when giving instructions on how he wanted the temples built in the Old Testament, if he wanted our body the temple of God to have a tattoo he would have commanded us to do so. You can't compare Gods temple with cars and houses.

This is a great example of the practice of "taking a text out of context to support a pretext."

The context is very specific in regard to what would defile the New Covenant temple: For one whose spirit is joined to the Lord to join his body to a prostitute. The context suggests other sexual sins are also in view. It really is NOT appropriate to use this passage to say that anything else -- tattoos, piercings, smoking, whatever -- is prohibited.

Dear Faithfulandtrue,

God bless you for standing up despite what comes. I believe that if God had wanted pictures and designs on our body He would have put them there Himself. We were made in His image, our body designed to be the temple of the Holy Spirit and tattoos are not a part of that, but very often draws more attention to the enemy than to God.
Keep searching the Bible and standing up for what is true.

Everyone has his or her private preferences; and Christians also have Christian liberty: Romans 14.

Blessings.

I went to a tattoo shop today to ask about laser removal, he said it would cost £40 per session, 12 sessions that's £480

I could get half my body tattooed for £480

I can't afford that much so I'm thinking about getting them covered with faith tattoos, maybe get one turned into a crucifix, and the other turned into an image of one of my fave church windows

Hi ihavefoundgod951:

So did you give getting some of your existing tattoos changed to faith based designs any more thought? or have you gotten any more ideas from your local parlor about how it could be done?

Cost effectiveness is certainly a valid issue.

Blessings.

Desiring a tattoo, in my opinion, is like children asking their youth leader, "How far can we go before we have to admit it's sin?" The Bible already says not to cut oneself, and one cannot have a tattoo without cuts. Trying to make a tattoo righteous is like trying to make going as far as we can toward sexual sin righteous. If G-d already says something is unacceptable, we cannot make it acceptable to Him by trying to make it religious. Take His Word as it stands. We should, instead, be trying to stay as far from sin as possible!

Okay. I am ready for the onslaught . . . .

Since the second post you replied to is from well into the 200s, you have had the opportunity to read at least two of these, maybe all three. Rather than plowing over existing furrows by repeating, I'll just link back so you can read them again and comment if you like:

I'm late to the party. Read through 15 pages and decided that was enough and now will contribute. I was a tattoo artist in street shops in the northeast and the south for over 20 years.

In one shop I worked in the owner was a deacon in a Baptist congregation. He had no visible tattoos, they were covered by a short sleeved shirt. When a member of his church would ask,"What do you do ?", he would reply, I'm a tattoo artist. They would think he was kidding them.

When he assured them that he was not they gave him the verse in Leviticus 19:28 . He would tell them to go and read the entire book of Leviticus and then "come back to me and we can discuss it." This happened several times and no one ever came back to discuss it.

I wonder why? They really should have. Leviticus is good reading, and rife with great material for discussion.

Actually he would tell them to read Leviticus 20. People like cafeteria style Bible reading. They pick what they want and ignore the rest. Chapter 20 usually is enough for someone admonishing against tattooing to look at the old covenant with a new perspective. :yum:

I am going to be honest because I feel like I never can be. I don't believe God likes tatoos. Why because it says he doesn't in the Bible... "You shall not make any cuts on your body for the dead or tattoo yourselves: I am the Lord."and before you go and tell me" well that was the law of moses and blah blah blah", concider what God is saying and also what other things he says is an abomination too, like having sex with your daughter in law, having sex with an animal, obviously these things are NOT okay. although I agree that there are the washings and sacrifices that dont need to be done anymore and those are legalism, but look at some of them and see that even Christ told us to follow. Matthew 5:17 Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I guess you just have to look at why God commanded them and pray about it. anywho please message me if you agree. I dont even want to come back to this thread cause i know im going to get a ton of poeple attacking me and stuff.

I won't judge anyone with tattoos but I will say I personally don't like them and would NEVER consider getting one

It looks worldly and I honestly (if i am aloud to be here) feel that it is pagan. So why get one? Also I know some people who are for them then argue about kosher food and stuff, but actually read and pray what is of God. It also says having sex with an animal is an abomination and that isnt okay...

I have no regrets about getting it. At the time I was struggling with my faith and it helped solidify it. Now God uses it as a tool for His glory along with everything I have overcome in my life. I am a walking testament of God's love, Grace, forgiveness and glory.

amymine712:

You're obviously a tattooed Christian woman with no regrets. Many Christians today use the skin ink medium as a witness tool to promote discussion of their faith.

Blessings.

A small and pretty tattoo, don't see the problem. But there are people who goes too far.

YoureMyBeloved: Yes, there is some amazing artwork out there. Many Christians find a faith based tattoo to be effective in personal witness.

Are there many parlors in your area?
