  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Creationist author becomes atheist.

Atheist love to claim they know the scriptures better than Christians. Atheist like Edward judges the church for money spend on worship instead giving to the poor failing to realize how much money is waste on "useless" science ; the thing they worship. God will use their own judgment against them if they don't repent.

Yes, I know "scriptures" better than the above average Christian. It's one of the reasons why I'm atheist.

knowledge is power so did the church at times abuse it's power? Of course.
Almost all advances of knowledge came from the church during the Middle Ages.
Simple atheist wants a monopoly on "Science" and will try their best to down play the church involvement of science throughout history. Its the same with the "flat earth" myth atheist loved to use in the past.

No, in fact most of these scientists were in fact Chrisian. But that doesn't make said religion responsible for their work.

Better yet there are saints and then ain'ts. If you are a saint you ain't an ain't and if you ain't a saint then you are a ain't.

FACT? How would you know someone's faith (world view) has no impact on their work? I beg to differ.

You might be overestimating the average Christian though. Don't forget many Christians never even read the bible.

So you are referring to Christian by title only. That like saying many married men never go home to the wives. (Even if someone can't read they should be expose to scripture enough to know more than most atheist here)

It did impact their work; negatively. The churches weren't the only ones who did some burning.

What is sadder though is when the work impacted faith. So many great minds got into science thinking that all they would find would match up with belief, and so many people instead encountered the opposite.

IMO, if more Christians thoroughly examined the bible and not just read it, but review the work of scholars and historians, there would be fewer Christians.

This was one of the main issues that led me away from Christianity, was learning specifically about the NT from an objective scholarly and historical view point.

Yes, and I know "science" better than the above average scientific methodist. It's one of the reasons why I'm a saint.

A Christian to me is anyone who believes in the god mentioned in the bible and accepts Jesus Christ as their lord and savior. Last time I checked, that didn't actually require any reading

To become a Christian that's true but afterward no desire to know scripture? I was totally ignorant of scripture and church when I got saved but immediately afterward I hungered to learn more of God's word and to be with God's people , church. I continuely ask my parents to take me to church they just responded you don't have to go to church to be a Christian , BUT I wanted to go.
If my salvation didn't give me the desire to know Him more I would throw in the trash.
