I'm white and am marrying a black woman. We've dated for nearly 4 years now. Maybe some people do have negative thoughts about it, but we've never heard them. I'm sure it benefits us that we live in a moderately progressive city. I have a few relatives that I know to be racist, but even they've not said anything to either of us.

Been married almost 4 years now. I had one relative who was unhappy about our marriage, but she got over it. I can recall one incident that might have had a racial component, (the person may have just been crazy and reacting weirdly from that) but we have otherwise had no issues. 10 years ago when I was dating another black woman, we would occasionally get looks. The reaction 10 years ago was generally a non judgemental "Oh, she's black!" now I get, "Oh, she's pretty!" I think that's progress.

It's worth noting: IF you get more of a warm, buzzing feeling at the idea of inter-racial marriage than intraracial THEN you are just as bigoted as the person who gets a bad feeling in the converse manner. Oikophobia is just as bad as xenophobia.

I get a warm, buzzing feeling because I have a great "inter-racial" marriage. I wish everyone could have such a marriage. But then I would have to clone my husband and I don't think I can share. Hmmm, I wonder whether cloning is the same as sharing ... now I'll have to think about that for a while.

Anyone who wants to do away with their race, religion, seeds, whatever, just mix till done away.
That should fix it, then will all be happy? Who knows.

That's just silly. Marrying my husband didn't "do away with my race." LOL. There are millions of white people in the world.

I guess that I'm a Boomer now? Anyway, mine is a mixed marriage. What do mixed marriages do for America? Whenever a marriage is a solid marriage - and the races and genders of the spouses are not of any importance here - then it's a good thing. That's the end of my thoughts. Maybe. But I haven't read the rest of the thread yet!

In some circles, there is still social stigmas when one marries outside of their ethnicity and or religious denomination as well.

Social stigmas on any of this, including interracial marriages are only based on stupid prejudices, which thankfully, are slowly dying away.

Two people getting married and forming a loving family unit is always good for society.

This would be the correct answer. An interracial marriage is not better than an intraracial marriage. Rising rates of interracial marriage are a positive indicator for our society, in my opinion, showing that we're dividing ourselves less by race. It doesn't mean abolishing unique cultures, it means a move toward Black and White or Hispanic and Asian being as significant a difference as English and Italian or Texan and Illinoisan.

So if mixing doesn't change any of the offspring from those unions, then both will stay the same?
How is that possible?
When all the mixing is finished won't the children all be the same eventually, in due time?
Then everyone will be pleased because the issue. Will be solved.
Why call that a 'silly' thought?

My "offspring" are children. Whenever gametes come together, something unique is created. It will not be identical to either parent, nor to any great-to-infinity grandparent. The only way that children end up too similar to their family members is with in-breeding which is dangerous and stupid.

People will never be "the same". If you look around you, there is a fantastic range of color of skins. It's really beautiful. I know a lot of people who are in mixed race marriages and their children are incredible. My own daughters - sorry to brag - are so very beautiful with olive skins, deep green eyes and freckles. I am envious because I am pasty and boring. LOL.

If you are a Christian you should know that God made all people equal. Or are you yet another who believes that in heaven there will be "whites only" areas?

How could children from different parents ever be the same?

It seems like the problem is when no one is satisfied, even when all have eventually blended to the final bringing of unity of looks or colors.
So it must be being different that is pleasing, or would that be racism.
It gets confusing in the final result.

No one is satisfied with what exactly?

Are you often confused about telling one white person from another because they are so alike?

There is also less inbreeding and perhaps something akin to hybrid vigor.
