The one's you've written about this subject in the past. Don't ask me to search them out. You ought to remember what you believed in the past, it is probably what you believe now.

I'll bow to your memory---mine is shot full of holes.

It is amazing how far folk will go to minimise statements made in praise of the blessed virgin Mary. Truly amazing.

Are you offended that I don't consider Mary to be my only spiritual mother?

Not offended but amazed ... not surprised but almost dismayed ... it isn't that I expect you to behave as if you were a Catholic Christian. It's more a case of watching the comments made in the thread, the squirming and wriggling in words and ideas and all to diminish Mary as if she was somehow to blame for those things that some of you think excessive in the devotion of others to Christ and God through their praise of Blessed Mary.

Some yes, others I am not sure if they were mothers ....I haven't checked their stories recently.

None of them is mother of the church. Wasn't that the title that prompted all this? Mary being mother of Jesus Christ whose body is the Church therefore implying that Mary's motherhood has a a spiritual link to the Church?

Mat 12:48 But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?

Mat 12:49 And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!

I'd still like to know what others think of these verses as far as Christs answer goes. Had he wanted His mother to have more prominence would He not have said things just a little bit differently?? If He did not place her above His disciples, why would anyone else do so? I do believe her position as His mother demands respect--just not adoration.

Mother of the Church?

The Church has NO mother.

PS. I believe what prompted this was the statement that "if you claim to be part of His Church you must have Mary as your mother".

It could easily be said that without any one particular believer, The Church would not be The Church.

The Church has NO mother.

That's strange, I could of sworn that Jesus had a mom, and her name was Mary.

I also seem to recall Scripture calling the Church the Body of Christ.

Probably my imagination.

It only seems strange because you are confusing the literal sense with the figurative sense.
Let's be sensible.

Well, I am very sure that Jesus had Mary as his mother. Isn't Jesus head of the church? So Mary is mother of the head of the church.

I guess this is one of those cases where I see matters in a different light from you. God bless us both ... I sure hope he will :)

Yeah, so how does that make Mary the mother of the Church? How did Mary, who is FLESH by the way, give birth to something that's SPIRITUAL?

God gave birth to the Church!

There is no such thing as mother of the Church, since no human was involved in its creation. The Church was build entirely by God's own hands and He alone decides who gets into it.

Some of you guys need to stop employing this "human wisdom/logic" nonsense and start reading the Scriptures for once.

Why do you speak as if Jesus and Mary are equals?

Jesus the Christ is Mary's LORD and Savior.
Mary is Jesus Christ's handmaid.

While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to him. 47 Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.”

48 He replied to him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” 49 Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. 50 For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.” Matthew 12:46-50
