• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Will Islam survive ISIS murdering Christians?

Is it possible that Muslims may get fed up with Islam when they view the atrocities of ISIS in Iraq? Or is there "no limit" to atrocities that they will accept in the name of Islam?

What if they renounce Islam in protest against the atrocities of ISIS?

What if they become Christians in disgust over those atrocities?

Is that possible?

in Christ,

Bob

Who really knows. If I were a Muslim, I would be worried about the outside attacks more. If IS should get Iraq, Syria and the Levant, They're going to be butting up against some serious powers in the region, like Israel, Saudi Arabia, Iran and Turkey. I don't think Saudi Arabia and Israel would even let Jordan fall, and would be motivated to action in Lebanon long before that. Really, ISIS doesn't have a prayer in the long run, because they have regional powers on all sides, most of whom are US allies.

I heard a thing on BBC yesterday

some Muslims agree that a Muslim state is a good thing, sharia law
but they do not think ISIS is going about it in the right way

like they were saying that the Caliphate should protect all Muslims and all Jews and Christians who are willing to pay the tax
but ISIS is killing so many people, it is not even following Muslim law

We've survived much worse. I'm sure Muslims will be just fine.

First of all there might even be a sunni back-clash "ethnic cleansing" in Iraq against Sinni's that is not stoppable - once ISIS is finally squashed - the Sunni's in Iraq have to be hugely concerned over that, and will need a way to distinctly distance themselves from their murdering cousins. How else can they do that?

And the silence of Islam in general as this spectacle is being played out before the entire world has to be embarrassing and "telling" even for the most devout devotee - world wide.

And doing so in the name of "Islam". - a distinctly religious motive.

So the question is whether the religion itself suffers when it disgraces itself in this way.

Do people then turn in disgust from following Islam?

Is that likely?

Bob

20,000 Sunni's in Iraq are not going to stop the Kurds backed by U.S. forces from wiping them out.

Given some time - that will happen.

So then what?

What happens to the other Sunni's in Iraq when their country is handed back to them and they look at all the death and damage done by Sunni's?

What happens when Muslims world wide turn in disgust from such atrocity?

Do they turn to Christianity?

in Christ,

Bob

Why should we care what celebrities have to say? Unless you look more to Hollywood then to your faith for leadership.

Not much point criticizing an obvious terrorist group that wouldn't care in the least if anyone in the US said something bad about them.

Israel on the other hand, cares deeply about its reputation as it effects how much support they can get from the world at large, thus critizing them can have an actual effect on its operations.

Truth be told, I don't see ISIS as being any different from rebel armies in Africa like the LRA or the RUF. They build up a head of steam, but they're not sure they want to take over because then they would have to govern the mess. They're designed to fail from the outset, they're too extreme, they will eventually fall apart at the seams and be relegated to the prisons and graveyards of their enemies.

Obama loves Hollywood. There is a link with the money and politics. He would not want to run them off.

Hollywood doesn't have nearly the influence that corporations have, but this is all deviating from the subject of the OP.

This is not a theology question.

Can a mod move this to an appropriate forum.
ISIS is a hot topic on this board:

Beheading of children in Iraq?

Chaldean Christian leader: ISIS 'Systematically Beheading' Children In Iraq | Gospelherald.com

A prominent Christian leader of the Chaldean community unveiled the "systematic beheading of children" and other horrendous crimes committed by ISIS. He said that the Sunni extremists are committing genocide against Christians in Iraq and with the aim to instill the Sharia Law as the law of the land.

In the interview with CNN's Jonathan Mann, Chaldean-American businessman Mark Arabo said that the "world hasn't seen an evil like this for generations."

"There is a park in Mosul, where [ISIS] they actually beheaded children and put their heads on a stick and have them in the park," he explained. "More children are getting beheaded, mothers are getting raped and killed, and fathers are being hung."

Until Muslims and Muslim leader speak out it will never stop. The silence from so called "moderates" in Islam is embarrassing and concerning. We have citizens of the UK , US and the EU going to wage Jihad with ISIS and then coming back to their countries of birth radicalized and dangerous. Islam is at a crossroads and it needs to make a declaration that groups and acts such as ISIS will not be tolerated.
