  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why does God answer some prayers but ignore others?

Suppose me and my friend both prays that our son gets into college. There is only one spot left. If God grants my prayer, God cannot grant his.

Will God grant someone's prayer who is Christian over someone who is not?
Will God grant it based on the merit of how good the person is?
Or will God ignore both prayers?

ISTM that God is not involved in the "small stuff". It will depend largely on which of these boys has the best qualification for the place, imo, and it may depend on who reviews the application.

So essentially what you are saying is that it is useless to pray unless it is for big things? Or are you saying it is useless to pray altogether.

Because He isn't a djinn/genie, and an answered prayer means an alignment to His will.

So, if you didn't get that job, or Lambo, then it probably wasn't His will or alignment for your life, and others.

We pray out of obedience. I prayed when my youngest kid was up for a place at a very popular magnet school. I prayed because I believe that God is pleased when we turn to Him in prayer and in faith. My son was selected, but I suspect that had more to do with his high grades than anything else.

Why then wouldn't our prayers, simply praise God, instead of asking for favors. If prayers are about pleasing God, then why do so many ask God for things in prayers instead of simply praising him.

I am not going to dictate to anyone else how they should pray and I'm not going to criticize them either. :) It is intensely personal.

Psalm 145:18 - The Lord is close to all who call on him, yes, to all who call on him sincerely.

Phil 4:6 - Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.

There are lots more scriptures about prayer. You can look them up for yourself.

God will grant what's best for both parties. The problem is we think we know what's best and don't trust God. Having trust is more important than gaining favors.

What if what is best for either party is both succeeding, an impossible event at this point, and all other options end badly?

What's success in God's eyes? According to the Bible his main concern is with the heart not worldly success necessarily.

Prayer is not a pass to get what you want. Just because you pray does not mean you will get it. God has a plan for us all and He knows what is best and He will do so. For example, if you prayed for someone to get hit, God would not just hurl a car at the person. God does answer every prayer, but keep in mind He does as He knows is right.

God Bless

This is why I like some Christians.

Might I also suggest praying that God will look out for any protect you and yours rather than for specific 'victories'?

Perhaps god ignores all prayers and one of your sons just gets into college without any divine aid.

I have never understood the idea that the guy with the great masterplan will change his ways on your demand.
And if assuming that - for whatever obscure reason - he really does, I am wondering how (being omnipotent and all that) he couldn´t spontaneously create an additional slot.
