  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A questions for Christians regarding non-Christians

Not sure I have any as such, although I might have problems with militant atheists. At best they are just a bore, and at worst they are living testimony to the truism that few people are more illiberal than self appointed liberals.

No issues here with non Christians. I do however have a major problem with arrogant, close minded, self righteousness people. Every world view has its village idiots.

I don't really have a major problem with non-Christians. If there is one, then it is the same problem that, I observe, pertains to many other people, including Christians and non-Christians. That one problem is an unwillingness to learn, and the using of the concept of freedom as an excuse to avoid engaging other forms of thought. Obviously, I'm not saying everyone other than me is like this; in fact, I'm sure there are some topics that each of us would avoid. For instance, I'm willing to study just about any topic, including atheism, but the one topic I don't really care to delve into too far is the 'deep occult.' or 'exorcism' practices among, say, Catholics.

So, on the one hand, I do understand that some topics are just not on the table for some people, and that is fine. However, on the other hand, more often that not, I meet people who are quite complacent about learning nearly anything, and they are somehow content with what they 'think' they know.' For the most part, they are almost completely unwilling to investigate a different approach to a particular topic that they happen not to like, even if the topic is one that could be beneficial for just about anyone...like eating healthy or exercising. Or, even worse, I meet people who think they know something but are neither qualified, experienced, or educated enough to really know what they're talking about, but they'll have the audacity to tell me (who has studied 'such and such' a topic, let's say) that I'm wrong, and that I don't know what I'm talking about.

That kind of response just makes me want to turn green and mean. ;)

I don't have a beef with non-Christians in general. Not all of them are alike. What Scripture says about all non-Christians isn't something that motivates hate in me, because it isn't meant to. They're sinners, they're lost. I don't hate people for being sinners or being lost. I strongly dislike certain types of sinners, but we're getting into subcategories of unbelievers at that point.

Same as Sketcher. A really good answer (as usual).

If I were to add anything it would be that I try not to hate anyone. It doesn't seem to me that I have any right to hate anyone whom God loves, which includes everyone.

Maybe Hindus cannot understand why you do not want to be Hindu. A large fraction of atheists are people who used to be Christians.
You need to read the forum specific rules for posting in Exploring Christisnity.

I have nothing personal against non-Christians. I don't like jerks, but that's regardless of their beliefs or lack there of.

I do wish that everyone would get to know Christ and get to know God's love for us.
