  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

 and for the myth of papal infallibility. Peter would not approve of that.

Actually, I don't think that Papal Infallibility has been linked specifically to Peter. The church merely needed to beef up its status and so created a dogma to that effect.

Yes, but that myth only makes sense if there is a human who is considered to be the head of the Church (i.e., superior to all other humans in terms of authority).

Well, sure, but the popes didn't think of themselves as infallible, nor did the church, until less than 150 years ago, so I don't think that puts Peter in any kind of focus. He certainly did not claim infallibility nor did anyone else attribute it to him in his own time.

I think the Catholic Catechism states that all Popes, including Peter, were infallible, which is easily disproved by reading the passage in which Paul rebukes Peter (Peter was acting in a wrong way).

Well, natch. If the first one to have been declared infallible was only eight or nine popes ago, the claim is still going to be that all of them were, even though they didn't know it.

i voted yes, because our focus is to be on Jesus Christ, as even Peter the apostle, servant to Jesus Christ, stated. Peter worshiped Christ, and would abhor anyone worshiping him (Peter), and we should do likewise.

I refuse to answer as I'm not Roman Catholic, so my answer would be a guess at best.

Jesus is the Head of His Church, and the Church is His Bride, as well as His Body, isn't it?

Does the Roman Church focus on Peter too much?
Yes and no. Some focus three times a day and others five. I have read the rule:
"Thou shalt focus on St.Peter four times a day. Let not thy number of thou focus be three for three be lacking. Thee number of thou focus shalt also not be five as five be excessiveth(<Try pronouncing that word). Let thy number of thy focus be four as thou well knoweth that four is thy number of thy focus toward St. Peter." From the Divine Book of Rules Pertaining to St. Peter Focus

I needed to correct the text; I fear that you were quoting from the unauthorised work by Philip Schaff.

Thank you. You know the internet these days. I guess I was directed to the wrong Divine Book of Rules Pertaining to St. Peter Focus site.
