  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It is right there in the many books of the bible, stated over and over and over.

And there's your problem. You're saying the Bible is God's eyewitness testimony, but you're only saying that because the Bible says it's God's eyewitness testimony. You can't use what the Bible says to verify that what the Bible says is true.

That would be the textbook definition of circular reasoning. I state that I have 3 heads, and this statement is true because I say it is. That is the kind of logic fallacy people end up with when they assume the bible is the word of a deity because the bible makes that claim.

EternalDragon's answer is directly in relation to your question(s) in post #400.. don't you think?
According to what? Where does the idea that the Bible was written direct from God come from?

Again, according to what? Where do you get the idea that God is the main eyewitness?
-There was another question i don't remember if this was by you asking "where did the Bible say that."

I am just verifying that it dos claim it throughout many different unrelated books the same way. I said nothing about "truth". That is a separate matter.

It is right there in the many books of the bible, stated over and over and over.

It says in the quran that it was revealed in full to muhammed by god himself through the angel gabriel.

So why do you consider the bible claim to be more credible then the quran claiming the same thing?

Also, for completeness, please answer these additional questions as well:
- what is your geographic location?
- what is the religion of your parents?
- what is the dominant religion in the area where you live / grew up?

Do you believe that actually happened?

If not, do we have your permission not to believe it either?

I'm just asking why he believes what one book states while disbelieving what another book states. Do I have your permission to ask for clarifications about his reasons for believing one thing while disbelieving another thing that roughly says the same thing?

Except they're not unrelated books -- the authors of the later books had the earlier ones in front of them as they wrote.

Convenient, isn't it?

I said nothing about "truth". That is a separate matter.

"Truth" is a separate matter from what the Bible claims? Remember, you said it, not us.

For one thing, the two books contradict each other.

For another thing, Mohammad is considered a false prophet.

For another thing, the Bible is what generates our faith (Romans 10:17), not the Koran.

For another thing, the Author of our Bible indwells us.

Fair enough?

... roughly says the same thing?
What's this, by the way?

"Roughly says the same thing?"

If one jot or one tittle is different, shouldn't that be a red flag?

As the Jewish scholars are fond of saying:

Even the spaces between the words are inspired.

Have you ever even spoken to someone as fundamentalist as you from another religion?

Is Poe a religion? Maybe the founder was Edgar Allan? I reckon I've met some fundamentalists from that religion.
LOL

No, not "fair" at all actually.
You're addressing the issue from the position that the bible is true. Which is the opposite of fair in light of such a question.

But I don't expect you to be capable of being fair about something like this. Intellectual honesty is not your strong side.

In the meantime, I'll await the answer to my question from the guy I asked.

That might be apt, as Edgar Allan Poe was known for macabre fiction.
^_^ -- Solid gold.

You do know that the originator of that "religion" is an active poster here, don't you?
