  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Here we go... http://www.ancient.eu.com/Tyre/

ahe_logo_header.png

Tyre is an ancient Phoenician port city which, in myth, is known as the birthplace of Europa (who gave Europe its name) and Dido of Carthage (who gave aid to, and fell in love with, Aeneas of Troy). The name means 'rock' and the city consisted of two parts, the main trade centre on an island, and 'old Tyre', about a half mile opposite on the mainland.

The Greeks were the one who started the "Old Tyre" nonsense.

The very etymology of the word "Tyre" means "rock". It was a rock in the sea. It was an island until Alexander the Great built a causeway. The locals did not call the city "Old Tyre" you will not find any valid sources that will support you. Even the prophesy itself differentiated between Tyre, the island, and the cities on the land that it called "her settlements".

Also Tyre had a long history of being attacked regularly. Both before and after Nebby's failed attempt. That is what rules out Alexander the Great as being part of the prophesy. It was a given that the island would be attacked again, and like in other times, defeated again. That Tyre was defeated later on was no big news. That Tyre stood off Nebby was big news.

I will have to see if I can find a source I had in the past. It showed all of the attacks on
Tyre. Both before and after Nebby. He was just another in a long line of attackers.

Now for a bonus question. Why was Tyre rich? You should be able to answer in one word.

At any rate it seems that genez has run away.

Again.

Why do creationists always run away when flaws are found in their beliefs?

Good night. See you tomorrow.
"Come on everybody! Join in! Let's gang up on Genez."
Your argument strategy is juvenile.

I have not run away from anything. You can't see where I am.

Nebuchadnezzar did not finish off Tyre. I never said he did. Strawman.

Prophesies were about a future date. It did not have to be about the world as it existed at the time it was given. :) Prophesy! Look it up.

By the way, Nebby never conquered Egypt. You need a better source than that.

When he was young and his father was still king he defeated the Egyptian armies in the field. But that was one battle and he never conquered Egypt.

You should be able to find a valid source if that claim is true.

Problem: Nebuchadnezzar didn't take Egypt

Oh that's a cool site. It feels great to not be concerned by anything they listed.

I did not say that you said that. So it was not a strawman. I pointed out how the prophesy applied to Nebby and not to others. You are the one who conveniently disappears when it is time to discuss the details of the prophesy.

By admitting that Nebby did not finish off Tyre, in fact he did not come close, you have admitted that it was a failed prophesy.

There are others that say the same thing. And no serious scholar will even hint that Nebby defeated Egypt. Some creationists conflate an early victory of Nebby in the field over Egyptian forces with him defeating Egypt. Again, it never happened.

The best that genez could do was a terribly biased site from the very early 1900's. You can't complain about my sources without falling over in laughter at his.

Thought you said you were going to bed. Now you're walking in your sleep?

I was. I was waiting for a download to finish. It has now.

So this time I am off to bed.

Try to make some clear points on how the Tyre prophecy was fulfilled.

Remember Tyre is the island city. Even the Bible clearly says that. It was to be scraped clean and be a "place for drying of nets in the middle of the sea". It would be pretty hard for a land based city to be in the "middle of the sea". That never happened to Tyre even with all of its attackers. And most important it was "never to be found again" Yet almost anyone can point to a map and say "There it is!!!"

Good night.

Before the prophesy was even discussed I tried to get you to commit as to what was a prophecy or not. "You will see a red car" is not a prophecy.

Tyre was attacked all of the time and defeated quite often. Waiting for someone else to defeat Tyre lowers that "prophesy" to a "you will see a red car" prophesy. With Tyre's location and source of riches it was obvious that it would be attacked again and again.

You lose either way with this situation. If you try to say the prophesy was fulfilled later you are saying that a prophesy predicted the obvious. That alone makes the so called prophesy worthless. If you admit that it applied to only Nebby then again you have a failed prophesy since he did not come close to defeating Tyre.

And even if I was so generous as to allow the later attackers to count, which they obviously didn't. Tyre kept coming back. Until their source of wealth did not matter any longer they were always a power to be considered. The island was never scraped bare. We can still see it today.

And now the show I was halfway watching is done too.

Of course. Atheists have friends, spouses, co-workers, bosses, and all of the same acquintances and social expectations that theists have. We are accountable to those people just as you are.

No you're not. All those people can not read your mind. If something is hidden from them you are not accountable. You can lie all you want as long as you think no one knows the truth. You have no ultimate accountability.

Isaiah 47:10

You have trusted in your wickedness
and have said, ‘No one sees me.’
Your wisdom and knowledge seduced you
when you say to yourself,
‘I am, and there is none besides me.’

Evolution is a lie as its now being presented.

The belief that all the diversity of biological life, with its phenomenal complexity and highly ordered and structured system. To act as if it could simply appear out from nothing with the results we now witness to? To tell us it was caused by means of a long series of non-directed random actions which were made upon matter? Matter, which conveniently was 'just there' ... Is a big fat lie. Its a lie against logic. Its intellectual dishonesty. Its a lie one must crave to believe in in order to override the reality that stands like a rock before one's eyes. Too many lies must be interjected to make it work out. Too many denials.

You're not accountable. Its proven and made more than apparent by what and how you promote. What you want to get others to believe. Its propaganda.

Of course. Much more so than Christians. At least according to their own belief systems. That is why it is so often necessary that atheists must remind creationists that they are lying.

For example the most common sort of lie that creationists practice is the quote mine, where quotes are taken out of context. What is sad is that they are taught to do this with their own Bible. If you have seen the claim of an estimate of 300 prophesies of Jesus that came true you would find that a huge number of those so called prophesies are simply quote mines of their own holy book. Now that should be blasphemy if anything is.
