  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Defacing the body is often done by other ways too! Some dye their hair, pierce their skin to hang trinkets, etc. I believe we need to accept our bodies as God gives them (see Mt. 5:36). Well, we can all have a conscience before God as to what pleases and honors Him.

I hear both sides of this; good and bad. I am a Christian who is a strong believer in the Lord but I have many tattoos and love them. Any thoughts?

Hi Nate, Welcome to the forum!

I believe that as Christians, we should not do things to our bodies to attract attention to ourselves. Tattoos, Piercings, Wild Hair Styles, Immodest Clothing, are all things that people do/wear to attract attention to themselves.

I'm pretty sure if you study out the history of Tattoos & Piercings, that they come from a Pagan history, anti-God...

I have tattoos it doesn't matter, the law was for jews not to do so they would stand out be separate from the pagans. I think as long as your not worshiping false gods, and I also feel it depends on what you put on your body, like a tattoo of satan not such a great idea, a tattoo of a cross i don't see anything wrong with that.

I have a white lion with blue flame for a main and eyes. It represents Jesus in my heart. I also have a blues player playing guitar against a flame. I use to play guitar and was in a band. to me it now means the trails I go through in this life and the music is Gods word. I also have a blue dragon which reminds me to be as wise a serpent and as harmless as a dove as Jesus said. I think it all depends on the meaning.

I am going into ministry and I think you will find there are many of us with tattoos pierced ears or blue hair. I have found it is actually a bridge it puts you on a real people level and people are much more willing to open up because they see you like them. Most the people who preach against it are older, they did not grow up in this generation where tattoos and pierced ears and blue hair was common. When they grew up well as my dad said only prisoners have tattoos. I said well how do you explain it I am not a criminal yet i have tattoos and my ears are still pierced from my youth. And that is the older view that criminals have tattoos women wear ear rings and freaks have blue hair. I think we should separate our differences, there are far bigger issues than how a person looks. However I think dressing to attract sexual attention whether it is man or woman is wrong.

I think it is dangerous to decide from our own experience what is right and what is wrong. We need to base our actions on the Word of God. Christians are called to separate from the world ~
2 Corinthians 6:17
(17) Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,

When you look around, can you see a difference between those who call themselves Christians and those who don't? The line is so blurred any more, you can barely tell by looking at people who are Christians and who are not. The Bible calls for Christians to separate from the world in many ways, how we talk, how we dress, how we look, our entertainment, how we raise our children, and the list goes on and on....I believe there is NOTHING Christian about Tattoos and Piercings, and Blue Hair...those are all the things of the world...and we need to give those things up for the Lord.

I pretty much agree with tammy, but since you already have some I wouldnt worry about it. Though I wouldn't advocate getting any more. I dont know if you were a Christian before getting them, but I find former gang members, deviants, etc with tattoos who later turned to Christianity interesting. Their bodies sort of tell a story of their former life, and their turn to Christ.

Im not saying youre anything like a former gang member because of your tattoos. I understand that its more of a fashion statement today, and they often have no real meaning anymore.

Some of the worst people are also the best dressed and there are plenty of false prophets which follow your code. Being separate from the world is spiritual it has nothing to do with decorations of the body. God is not shallow.

And it is hypocritical of you because your clothes are all from this world what is social acceptable in your group. Really if you followed your own rule you would be wearing temple robes around because that is the dress approved by God.

Blue hair oh no, who cares you think God cares about hair color. i hope I have blue hair in heaven maybe it would look cool, but I trust God to pick out what I will look like. give me a break. i don't remember god saying Thou shalt not have blue hair^_^^_^. The problem comes when you try to impose your will on other people and claim it is Gods will. i know my God a way better than that.

The phrase who are you to judge another mans servant comes to mind.

To the OP look I am going in to ministry to be lead preach of a church one day. God cares about your heart and not what is on your body or the color of your hair. Any one who say it is not so is a lair.

see there is the stereotype, for the measure you judge with shall be measured back to you. How do you know he was not saved when he got them and they tell his story with Christ?

I was saved at six i got all mine while I was saved, they reflect God in my heart.

search the Scripture for truth, if it is possible for you to know it. (Yhwh willing).

why do you have a computer and internet? because that is about the biggest connection to the world you can have. do you have a tv, do you watch movies?

You can't say a person is making a friend of this world unless they do it for this world, as I said before that is in a persons heart. That is what God cares about not how you look.

poor guy this was his first post and he got all this. Nice job people i bet he never comes back.

I also agree that there is nothing wrong with tats on Christians. Sometimes it's cultural, or personal (meaning to the person, not for public view), or it can represent out faith. It can also be mickey mouse! There is nothing scriptural that forbids it for us.

Just my opinion.

Thank you:thumbsup: sadly though I don't think the op is coming back.

There was a time when I looked back and wondered what God thought about my tattoos. I started to look over my tattoos and thought do they have meaning then God spoke to me and showed How each one of my tattoos reflected Him in my Heart and our journey together. I am not a shamed of them, they all reflect God, besides when this body dies they will return to dust and be no more. I think its funny how some take a worldly view and then preach I am being part of a worldly view. I realize my soul will go on, not my body or the things on it, Now that is a spiritual view not worldly.

Now if a Christian goes and gets a tat of a demonic caricature...that's not cool in my book.
If a person got one before he/she found the Lord, I don't think they should be ashamed, but should not show it to others. It would be easy to say for them to get it removed. THAT's expensive!
Tats depicting the cross or the crucifixion are fine by me, and if done well are works of art. To many it is a sign of their faith.
Now if you were to talk to an authentic Calvinist, that's a no-no.
I however am in the Wesleyan camp. :) He had many tattoos.
Nah just kidding about Wesley, I feel good tonight. :)

I agree, i could see a person before they were saved might get something like that, but I personally believe a child of God would not be able to do it. I believe God would work against that person if they planned it and they would not be able to, but there are always exceptions. Like i said my tats reflect God in my heart.

I started getting flak over my cross neck less because it kind of gothic with four crosses. i was sad i waited years to find the right cross and when i saw this one it spoke to me in my heart I new it was the one. while i was said God showed me the meaning. The first cross is the biggest and is Jesus cross, the sceond one sit on top that and is smaller it is the man Jesus saved on the cross. The third cross is smaller still and sits on the others it is black and goth looking it is the cross of the ma who mocked Jesus, the four cross is smallest of all and sits on all the others, it is my cross i carry and it is sliver same color and the first cross jesus cross because he helps me carry it. After that meaning came out i know longer felt bad about my cross. i wear it always to show people Jesus is my King with out speaking a word. But i do dream of having a cross tat to cover my whole back, my wife says i have enough, so unless she changes her mind it won't happen, but maybe :)
