Anyway! I, too, do not view permanent celibacy as a 'gift' but rather a 'choice'. I am choosing to be celibate until marriage.

I just thought I'd post this to see if there's anyone on here who, like me, believes they have a calling from God to permanent celibacy? If so, we should all get to know each other so we can encourage each other and build each other up in our mutual calling.

I am unmarried so am celibate (i.e. abstinent), but I do not feel like I have a calling to permanent celibacy. There were times when I was a newly born-again Christian though where I would read the NT and think how great it would have been to have lived Paul's life. It wasn't merely the fact that he was single, but the way he faced danger apparently without any fear, the way he endured imprisonment and hardship and still remained faithful unto the end, the way he nurtured the early churches and did not give himself over to worldly manners of thinking, and his relationship with God and all these things being accomplished through faith (really couldn't have been done any other way). All this from a man who was the "chief" of sinners.

I imagine it would have been difficult if not impossible for a married man to have lived that life.
