  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Even though it was explained to me by a priest, I don't remember how to use the guide in the beginning to understand what to read on a given day. I searched the Internet and found some articles about Book of Common Prayer, but nothing that simply told me what to do on a given day, assuming one doesn't know the reference points for second day of this or that. Does anyone know of such a guide?

If you're using the 1979 BCP, here are some links that might help:

To get the weekly point of reference, you can check out:
lectionary.library.vanderbilt.edu

For the Church Calendar at a glance, see:
lectionarypage.net/CalndrsIndexes/Calendar2013.html
(and they have the one for 2014 up too)

Then, if you just want the Daily Office readings at a glance, you can see the calendar here:
missionstclare.com/english/index.html

In the BCP, if you want to see what a Sunday's readings will be, you need to know which of the 3 years it is. We just started Year A, with this being the 2nd Sunday of Advent (p. 889 in the BCP). The Daily Office readings are on a 2 year cycle, and we just started Year 2 (p. 937 in the BCP).

I can't post direct links yet, but these are legit.
