  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Now that is a terrible thing to say. Not all Christians are fools. Most of them accept modern science. It is mostly in the U.S. where we have a possible majority of backwards Christians.

If it walks like a duck... Methinks you highly underestimate Christians in general - not just in the States. Good thing I am an expatriate.

For the record, learned religious folks outside of the States do not hold science as dear as the cosmopolitan world world thinks. Most outside of the States know science is beneficial, but is for all intents and purposes a religion, not an arbiter of truth. Then again, a lot of people outside of the States appreciate the history of science, and champion independent research and thought. After all, the people of the States tend toward group think ( your rights are being snatched: everyone but Americans realize this. Your "conspiracy theorists" were right, and all you did was scoff.)

Methinks you have the tares and wheat mixed up.

Errant views would be the tares; pure doctrine would be the wheat.

Wrong, backwards as usual AV. The fundies are at best the chaff.

You mean "declared" to be upon us?

Potato/potahtoe, does it really matter what the crazies call it? The point is that there has always been a small but vocal group of Christians making this continually failed claim. Christianity has a lot going for it as far as religions go. The actions of these extremists make the whole religion look bad at times.

If you knew dispensation theology, you would know that the last days began with the renting of the veil at the moment Jesus died on the Cross.

Uh huh. Sorry, but the "last days" are far past their "use by" date. It is time to think of something else.

So yes -- anyone with a simple calculator knows that we have been in the last days for 1980 years now.

And AV openly admits his failure.

Waiting for what? you're already in the last days.

Do I look like a back woods hillbillly to you? Please take your cheese elsewhere.

Well, for the record, that is basic doctrine (Dispensation Theology), but if you came to this conclusion on your own, I would say you've been doing some hefty studying!

Good for you!

The weird part is it wasn't that hard. As you said, it is basic. It makes me happy to, for example, get thumbz up from a peer/you, but makes me sad if it is so basic why doesn't the rest of the Church get it? Makes me worried for "us."

No, I do not underestimate Christians in general. That was my point. Worldwide most accept the theory of evolution. Most accept modern science.

And of course I have scoffed at you and your kind. You never submit any evidence that supports your beliefs. Claims made without evidence can be dismissed without evidence.

I am more than ready to back up my claims with peer reviewed science, can you claim the same? Since I have never seen you support any of your claims I don't think that you are able to.

You don't get it. Perhaps it is my arrogance, perhaps I am [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]ed at this generation. But, you have GOOGLE. You have entire courses for free online. I would think a supporter of knowledge would want to see information out - not tirelessly ask for "sources" from a person. I personally worked hard for everything I know. What makes you think I will just give you info that I can write up, send to Nature magazine, and have you pay to read? This is especially when everything I say you dismiss. Look of up yourself; you are an human. I get tired of people begging for sources when the Google search bar is in most people's upper right corner of the browser. Stop being intellectually lazy, and put in some decent work to prove me wrong (or right.)

2 Corinthians 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

Paul goes on to say:

2 Corinthians 11:3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

This is why we need to pray for them.

I have plenty to keep me busy. And you should watch the name calling. Yor saying that I am "intellectually lazy" would be on the same order of me calling you an "idiot zealot". It is not allowed./ It makes debates go out of control.

It seems that you do not know some of the basic rules of debating. It is up to the person making a positive claim to offer evidence for his claim. If you can't you lose. It has nothing to do with whether the opposition is lazy or not.

Until you do provide some evidence that supports your claims you are wrong by definition. I actually enjoy it when someone puts up at least a half decent fight. I tend to learn from the results. Your arguments are so weak that no one will gain anything. As the great Hitch proclaimed "Arguments made without evidence can be dismissed without evidence". You are dismissed.

Not really. "Idiot zealot" is extreme and defamatory. Someone who cant even waste 0.0002 seconds searching on google is intellectually lazy. (Google even times how long it takes for a search to happen, I am sure you know.) There is no excuse for ignorance; I would entertain an "idiot zealot" long before I entertain someone who cant even google search something for the purposes of proving someone wrong (or right.)

There are 24 types of debate (I googled it.) To which rules are you referring?

And, this forum is a by proxy debate forum. It is not an inherent debate forum. So, the rules of debate - formal debate - do not apply here. You are responsible for your own knowledge. And, if someone makes a claim, be an individual and go beyond "demanding the opposition to provide evidence - for reason of burden of proof." Look it up yourself; then you will have the power of knowledge and refutation (should the opposition be wrong.) It is lazy when you are in the age of Google not to spend three seconds typing in keywords just for S####&giggles. You could have looked up the NASA document I continuously alluded to in the time you typed your response, for example. You could have even read the abstract. As I said before, I worked hard for what I know - and I know it. You can play the "this is a debate forum" game, and rob yourself of possible enlightening knowledge because of pride of argument. It doesn't matter to me; I have it.

If you were a real intellectual, you would look up everything I said. Who knows, I may be so wrong: but, I expect independently researched evidence to show me of my folly, not literary claptrap. You could do both of us a favor by simply researching my arguments. I am begging you (and everyone in the world) to do that - for me and "experts." Call us on our B.S. - but make sure it is researched (by you,) and evidenced (by you.) Don't parrot an "expert," or your opinion.

Until you do provide some evidence that supports your claims you are wrong by definition. I actually enjoy it when someone puts up at least a half decent fight. I tend to learn from the results. I am wrong by definition. Interesting. I would say look up the definition of denotation and connotation, but you haven't looked up anything I have suggested yet. You can "learn" a lot more if you actually look up the stuff yourself. I have been saying several times to look up the 1985 NASA document, for example. No one has bothered. I even apologized and said, "I had access to it while on Columbia's server; I don't know if you will have access." The other stuff was basic physics: gravity and E&M. I even directed you to Maxwell's equation on a moving charge producing changes in electric fields - which produce an magnetic field. Did you look up that equation to see if I am telling the truth? I claim it is one of four of his equations: prove me wrong (or right) with your own research. Don't just expect me to give you the info. If I wasn't a "Christian," and I was just some random on the street, what obligation do I have to give you anything. As I said, especially since I know I can just write up my spouting, send it to Nature Magazine, and have you pay to read it - what obligation do I have to you to give you the info on a forum for free?

The West is really blind to the expense of knowledge. People go to school for years only to be dismissed by laypersons that have not even dabbled enough in the field of discussion, and refuse to even research information for themselves (in the age of Google.) That is why the West is falling: too much scoffing, not enough self-researching. Meanwhile, the rest of the world is snatching up what remaining talent the West has, and using them sans politics. And, the West has the audacity to cry about how there are no "scientists or engineers" to fix things. You bet there isn't: no one has time to deal with the attitude when they can be appreciated in other countries - while having their housing paid for, a stipend, and a locked-in job contract. That is why I became an expatriated educator; the rest of the world got the memo. When the West falls (or the world,) those countries that snatched up all of the Western "talent" will be the first to rebuild and recover. The West will stay in their scoffing confused ways.

And, I am not even an educator for a private company; I am an educator for a mission program. Imagine how much "talent" head hunters have snatched for private means - people that are learned and not necessarily Christian. Good luck in the coming years; I hear your country is already in shambles with a beefed up, artificially inflated economy.

So Lollerskates still has nothing.

How sad.

I have plenty (we both know that.) You could have started by typing in some words in Google search; instead, you want to tell me 'I have nothing," when you are the one robbing yourself. I know bhsmte was probably being being facetious, but seriously, are you being lazy again? I am begging you to prove me wrong (or right;) I honor intelligence whether I Am right or wrong. I do not respect intellectual parrots.

Try looking up the NASA document, and let me know if it is open to public view, or if you need college server. It is a Springer document. Try starting there if you care. Then we can talk about what I do and do not have (when my intellectual opponent actually puts in work.)

If God is truly omniscient and sees all, wouldn't he have seen the corruption of humankind before he ever created the world, avoiding the whole charade by implementing a better plan? Or does he have a blind spot?

Creation is a quantum issue (If I can reduce it to such a lowly standard.) When I am in the lab, I have to run several trials to ensure results. God does not. This "trial" called Creation/life is THE best "trial" to ensure maximum souls saved, and exploit all dimensions of God's character. He, unlike me, knew perfectly the scenario needed to do that. No second trial necessary.

Satan, sin and death is not a threat to God, and truly isn't a threat to us (if we believe.) That is why Satan is not dead. Nothing has died yet (spiritually.)
