  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

When he rejected the divinity of Christ, he rejected Christ.

Like I said, he rejected christianity, like many of the framers of the constitution did and we are talking about 250 years ago. These were pretty smart dudes, the framers and I wonder what their beliefs would have been today, with the knowledge available today, as opposed to their time?

As far as there being no evidence of God, your statement is quite simply a bald faced lie. There is an abundance of evidence for God.

And yet even with this "abundance" you boast of you are unable to advance a compelling case for theism.

There is no physical proof because man is saved through grace. If I could prove to you that God was real, then you would have knowledge; not faith. You would be condemned.

And yet you claim to know. Does that mean you are condemned?

He rejected christianity.
You gotta love the high level of contempt atheists and so called faith seekers on this site show for the religious and the Christian faith.
I like the faith seeker though having an avatar mocking circular reasoning. That's someone who knows who they are and are proud of it.

When Jefferson rejected Christianity, realizing some think the lower case "c" has an impact^_^ as other than to demonstrate the writer is not well educated. Then Jefferson rejected Christ.
Jefferson had no right to sponsor a Bible. It was blasphemy. But he was Thomas Jefferson and so it came to print.

Blasphemy is not a crime. Jefferson had every right.

Stating facts is having contempt?

Atheism has no facts. :) But it does boast tons of contempt. Right?

No more than Christians have contempt for atheists. I've seen plenty of contemptuous people in both groups.

However, I don't see atheists showing contempt in this thread. Disagreement =/= contempt.

According to man's law, yes. According to God's law, no.

Which brings us back to the question I asked you earlier about the Christian principles that you claim are at the core of America's founding. You've yet to elucidate what those Christian principles are. Is Jefferson's right to publish such a book, under the protection of freedom of speech, not counted among the 'Christian principles' you invoke? Perhaps there are fewer 'Christian principles' implicated in America's founding than you first thought.

Well, so far 50% of your list is false.
Jesus said that He did not come to destroy the law, but to fulfill it. Until His followers accepted His teaching as a fulfillment of the Scriptures and recognized Him as the song of God, there was no such thing as Christianity. Jesus worshiped in the same temples as the Jewish leaders. I'm really amazed that you don't know this. Jesus celebrated the Passover with His disciples. One would think that would be a clue. Frankly, I really don't think you know much about this subject.

Why are there still Jews? That Jesus was the messiah was only opinion?
As far as there being no evidence of God, your statement is quite simply a bald faced lie. There is an abundance of evidence for God. There is no physical proof because man is saved through grace.

So you agree with me that there is no physical, objective evidence for this deity of yours? So the list is now correct, then?
If I could prove to you that God was real, then you would have knowledge; not faith. You would be condemned.

Do you have knowledge of your god or not? Do you not have evidence for the "worldwide" flood? Do you not have the "evidence" of people healed by "faith"? Do you not have the evidence of your own experiences?

Are you condemned?
I have issued several challenges for those who would want to actually find some believable evidence, but I've found that rather than accepting my challenges I get only more gibberish from the mouths of the cowardly.

Insults. Is that a Christian thing?

As for your "challenge" you issued to me, it appeared to be nothing more that seeking out someone under the delusion that they are Napoleon as evidence that Napoleon existed. Gibberish indeed.
It's easy to say that God isn't real.

I am not saying that your god is not real. I am saying, I reject theistic claims that cannot be substantiated.
It's a scary thing to find out the truth for yourself.
That you are able to scare yourself is not in dispute.

I like the faith seeker
If you check the icon again, you may find that it says "Faith: Seeker", as the system puts "Faith:" in front of the displayed field. I do not self-identify as an atheist. I seek knowledge, to explore reality.
though having an avatar mocking circular reasoning. That's someone who knows who they are and are proud of it.
Do you place value on circular reasoning? Is it integral to your religious beliefs? Or should it be mocked? Pride has nothing to do with that.

Jefferson had no right to sponsor a Bible. It was blasphemy. But he was Thomas Jefferson and so it came to print.
I think the point that was being made was, if the USA was actually a "Christian nation", his bible would have been unlawful.

If God really exists and is the creator of this world then why would he allow the suffering of untold millions the vast majority of which had never heard of Jesus/the bible and thus suffer further in hell as a result.

Why did he wait 100,000 years to intervene in our plight of predatiom, starvation, disease and death?

Is he cruel or incompetent?

What have YOU done to ease the suffering of millions?
What have YOU done to teach people about Jesus and the Bible?
What have YOU done to make the world a better place?
How many sick have you healed?
How many homeless have you given homes?
How many downtrodden have you born up?

Blaming God for the failing of man is about as stupid an argument as I've ever heard. If man had stayed true to his God then this world would be as you think it should. Evil is the absence of God. Check the mirror lately?
Why is you think God should make earth a paradise? It isn't. It's a crucible.
Isn't it amazing how you can know so much about the nature of a God you don't believe exists based on what is written in a book you haven't read?

I'm not going to allow you to dodge my questions by trying to turn the tables on me. If you can answer them honestly without resorting to insults then I will do the same.

I answered you. Blaming God for evil is like blaming your campfire for the darkness that surrounds you when you wander away from it. Of course people do evil things to each other. They are inherently evil.

If you haven't accepted Christ as your personal savior you are unforgiven.
If you've ever taken anything without permission you're an unforgiven thief.
If you've ever had sex outside of marriage you're an unforgiven adulterer.
If you've ever said anything untrue you're an unforgiven liar.
If you've ever used the Lord's name in vain you're an unforgiven blasphemer.

I could go on but you get the point. You stand there putrefied by the contamination of your own sin and you chastise God because the world doesn't reach your standards of utopia?

These, by the way, are not insults but rather observations of fact. Christians aren't perfect, but we have a way for our sins to be forgiven. Your sins accumulate every day until at judgment God will be unable to tolerate your presence. That's what separates you from God for eternity; not any failing on God's part, but the contamination of your own unforgiven sin.
