  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Urrk, I did not even really read the review. A clueless tenth grader who was brought up with false beliefs. No wonder he liked this horribly flawed book.

I know it has to be horribly flawed from the errors I told you that could be seen just from the "peek inside" option.

I'd bet dollars to donuts that that review was not written by an actual tenth-grade student. The way it's written (especially the parts about getting a perspective other than evolution only, and how it would be good for college students).

The way those parts are worded stink of some marketing guru trying to offset bad reviews.

To be proper critical thinking the process would have to be aimed at any alternatives. And that as I said could be dangerous. The errors in ID are huge if you look at ID critically. It could seriously harm students who were not aware how foolish those beliefs are ahead of time.

It brings to mind many many years ago when I saw Pee Wee Herman's Big Adventure in the movie theater. I knew it was a stupid movie but the constant onslaught of humor overpowered me and I could not stop laughing. The same could happen to innocent students exposed to the true foolishness of creationism for the first time.

so your definition of critical thinking is that unless it poses alternatives it can't be defined as critical thinking?

THat would mean all the true false are not critical thinking

only multiple choice

lol

here you go

multiple choice = critical thinking
true false = non critical thinking

you don't see an err here?

does that mean all the true or false questions are not critical thinking?

I await your response.

how can it be horribly flawed when all you read was a few pages, and the cover.

remember, you can't judge a book by it's cover?

that would aptly apply.

Ninth Commandment warning. I never made such a claim and you should know that.

I said that E.D. has not caught me in any errors and I have caught him many times over.

If you can't be honest there is not much point in debating with you.

Now as to multiple choice errors, whether or not slavery was right at Bible times was not really the focus of the debate. This is the second bit of dishonesty in only one post. You are trying to move the goal posts. The fact is that E.D. was wrong about how the Bible supported slavery.

And if there really was a God on the Hebrews side they could have done the right thing. I don't care about multiple choices in this case. If you want to go with multiple choice, and in reality I do, then you have to admit that there was no God on the Hebrews side. Or this God had a terribly flawed idea of right and wrong. It is a no win situation for Christians no matter what.

It has nothing to do with errors. You just brighten my day.

P.S. The bible does not promote slavery (you have not researched chattel slave have you?). In fact the bible is dead set against it. Exodus 21:16

Once again, that is not a verse against slavery.

Can't you read your own book of myth?

How can you claim the Bible does not promote slavery when it tells you how to trick a fellow Hebrew into slavery for life?

You have been wrong in your claims about slavery. You have been wrong whenever you try to do science. It is really rather pathetic.

Yes, no one is as blind as a creationist that refuses to see.

Not only do we have evidence for our beliefs we can repeat the experiment in labs. Pretty cool.

Creationists on the other hand have a book. A book that says you can get striped offspring by having the parents mate while looking at sticks stripped of their bark. That leprosy can be cured by doves blood. That the Earth is flat.

Strange none of them believe those claims today, in fact they will even deny some of them, yet they dispute one of the strongest theories that science has ever developed.

If God said "jump", who am I to question, God.

Yes please quote the last myth, that the earth is flat. Considering the Neanderthals couldn't do what you do today, exactly what is your point?

When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth: (Proverbs 8:27 KJV)

He hath compassed the waters with bounds, until the day and night come to an end. (Job 26:10 KJV)

It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in: (Isaiah 40:22 KJV)

It's my opinion that most Christians have not really read their Bible, and when atheists (usually former Christians who have read the Bible) point out the absurdities, inconsistencies, contradictions, historical errors and nonsense, it usually leaves them reeling.

You already quoted the verse that said the Earth is flat, Why should I have to do so? Or did you fail geometry along with science?

The arrogance was there because that is the only way to deal with some people. And since you were wrong, and in fact stepped over the line in regards to the Ninth Commandment, you never really put me down.

I have read quite a few books of this sort. The errors that I found in even the little bit supplied by the publisher had the same sort of errors that are repeated time after time in other books that have rightfully earned creationists a title that is probably banned here.

Creationists have earned themselves disdain by their actions over the years. Both respect and disdain are earned. As a result creationists start from a hole. If they were honest for once they might earn a little respect. I am still waiting for that day.

Reeling to pray for you I would guess. The bible is a spiritual book. You won't fully understand it unless you are saved.
